--The Nationals have beaten me in bases two days in a row, which is extremely rare. I bet -- literally -- that it doesn't happen a third straight day. Give me the Marlins tonight on the run line with stud RHP Josh Johnson set to take the mound.
--Per my quick-hit column this past Friday on VI's college hoops arena, Billy Donovan has found his next point guard overseas and his name is Nimrod Tishman. He has been admitted to UF and now just needs to be cleared by the NCAA. Kevin Brockway of the Gainesville Sun initially reported this story yesterday.
--The Gators are also in the hunt for Stacey Poole Jr., who is ranked the nation's No. 21 prospect in the Class of 2010 per Rivals.com. Poole's father (AKA: "Cool Poole") was a stud for UF from 1989-1992, but he never met expectations because of three gruesome injuries, including a pair of Achilles' tears and and a torn ACL.
--Atlanta authorities are apparently optimistic that they are going to be making arrests soon in the tragic murder of boxer Vernon Forrest, who was gunned down in Atlanta last week.
--South Carolina's 2009 football team opens practice today and all eyes will be on third-year sophomore quarterback Stephen Garcia. There's not a player in the country under more pressure to excel than Garcia this year.
--Florida WR Riley Cooper has signed a contract with the Texas Rangers, but he will play his senior season for the Gators (as a walk-on).
