Another blast at another seminar! Just a bunch of quick-hit thoughts/comments/analysis, etc.
--As always, great stuff from LVSC's Kenny White to get the seminar started Saturday morning.
--As always, great stuff from Sid Rosenberg with his smooth and entertaining moderation of multiple panels. Look for Sid back on the radio in South Florida real soon on WQAM.
--Chris David is on FIRE at the sports book. He's cashed multiple parlays in sick fashion. And, of course, his biggest straight play of the week was the 'over' for BoSox-Yanks the other night when the Yankees scored three touchdowns.
--HUGE props to Tim Trushel of SportsMemo for picking up the tab at a monster and outstanding meal at T-Bones here at Red Rock. 8-oz filet with mashed potatoes might sound soft but when coupled with more than a half-dozen Budweisers, it hit the spot.
--Real good to finally meet Chad Millman of ESPN.com, who covers the sports betting beat for ESPN.com's "Insider" area (prescription required). Look for his coverage of this event in the coming days. Also, he's working on an E-60 piece with Kenny White and our good friends over at Las Vegas Sports Consultants to look for on a future edition of that show.
--Also nice to meet Jenny Woo of Gambling911.com. She likes to give me fashion advice.
--Jimmmy Rotunda likes Rutgers 'under' for its season win total.
--Not happy that EVERYBODY has my Gators winning it all. I went with the reigning, pending and defending champs to beat Texas 38-14 in Pasadena. Bruce Marshall of the The Gold Sheet went with UF to pound Penn St. (47-6 if memory serves).
--Sid really likes those East Carolina Pirates. And as always, I love those Troy Trojans. Sid also likes Georgia to beat Oklahoma St. outright in Week 1.
--I like Nevada catching double digits at Notre Dame in Week 1. Bruce Marshall and James Manos are thinking the same thing but are seemingly getting gun shy. Manos: "I gotta have the hook. 14 1/2 is my buy price."
--In a moderate surprise, James Manos likes Va. Tech to go unbeaten until...of course, the Hokies get to Pasadena and get pounded by you know who. Manos' analysis on the panels has been dynamite as always. If you're a WAC fan, make sure to check our archives for Manos' in-depth analysis. He recognizes some great spots due to the brutal travel that stems around trips to Hawaii and Ruston, LA. Manos is down on Pat Hill's seemingly declining Fresno St. program. Manos thinks the Bulldogs are "soft."
--Manos loves the 'under' for N.C. St.-South Carolina on Thursday of Week 1. Manos and I are both high on the Wolfpack this year. We both have them winning the ACC Atlantic. I have Ga. Tech winning the ACC for a nice plus-500 payout at most spots. Get on it!
--Marshall thinks Washington will be improved thanks to the return of Jake Locker and the new enthusiasm around the Steve Sarkisian hire. Marshall is a walking sports encyclopedia who knows more sports than me (and there are very few on the planet that I'll say that about). He's also working on a book about the 1963 Loyola-Chicago basketball team that's going to be a great read.
**B.E.'s Bonus Nuggets**
--If you missed HBO's Real Sports last week with Bernard Goldberg's interview with Nick Schuyler, you gotta check it out if that tragic story captivated you -- like it did me -- several months back. Very intense, interesting, inspiring and horrifying.
--Props to Dog Days in Atlanta! I've been able to check out my dog (Arlene Spurrier Edwards) running the show in the play room all weekend via the sweet-ass webcam. She's dominating that room!
--During our Big East discussion y-day, I ripped Steve Kragthorpe. Louisville went 41-9 under Bobby Petrino. In two years since Petrino left, the Cardinals are an atrocious 11-13 under Kragthorpe. They will start 2-5 this year and after losing at Cincy on Oct. 24, Kragthorpe will deservingly taste a pink slip. Within 2-3 weeks, I predict that Phillip Fulmer will be the next coach at Louisville. (No need to worry about Fulmer getting freaky an any local restaurants) Hiring Fulmer will be a tremendous hire, one Clemson should've made when it inexplicably went with Dabo Swinney last year.
--Sid hates the state of Texas. "Had a layover in Houston on the way out here and couldn't get wait to get the hell out of that awful state."
--Bill Marzano leads the city of Vegas in f-bombs dropped this week. After dark, he averages two per sentence. Yeah, Bill!
--Much, much more to add (and I will later with some of Mark Franco and Ted Sevransky's thoughts/picks, etc.), but gotta run downstairs to join the NFL panel coming up shortly. Hope you'll be listening and best of luck with your wagers tonight!
