NBA Rookie of the Year Odds

You can bet on who you think will win the 2018-2019 Rookie of the Year at BetDSI.eu. Marvin Bagley III is a slight favorite to win the award, while Luka Doncic is the second choice. Trae Young and DeAndre Ayton are also listed as serious contenders, while everyone else is a longshot. Let’s take a look at each of the top four contenders to win the Rookie of the Year award and also consider a few longshots.

2018-2019 NBA Rookie of the Year Odds at BetDSI.eu

Marvin Bagley III +170
Luka Doncic +200
Trae Young +400
DeAndre Ayton +500
Michael Porter Jr. +1800
Field +400

Marvin Bagley III +170

Bagley will be playing on a rebuilding team, as the Sacramento Kings are nowhere near being a contender. That is not necessarily bad news when it comes to winning the Rookie of the Year award, because Bagley is going to get a lot of playing time and be counted on to score. He could easily average over 20 points per game and more than 10 rebounds per contest.

Luka Doncic +200

Many NBA scouts believe that Doncic is the best prospect in the draft and he plays for a Dallas Mavericks team that should get a lot of attention. He is already considered a great playmaker and a solid scorer. The Mavericks are a better team than the Kings and Doncic has more talent around him.

Trae Young +400

The wild card in terms of winning this award is definitely Young, as he has drawn a lot of comparisons to Steph Curry. The problem is that Young is not going to a team like Golden State; he is going to the Atlanta Hawks. Young plays very little defense, but voters rarely look at defensive numbers when picking this award. Maybe the Hawks will just let Young shoot from anywhere all season and if that happens he could put up big enough numbers to win this award.

Deandre Ayton +500

The top pick in the draft could average more than 20 points and 10 rebounds per game, but he is not considered a dominant scorer. He also will be playing for a Phoenix team that doesn’t get a lot of attention. Perhaps Devin Booker will find chemistry with Ayton, and Ayton will turn into an offensive force, but that remains to be seen.

Michael Porter Jr. +1800

Porter is listed as a longshot to win the Rookie of the Year award. His health is the big concern, as he dropped all the way to the Denver Nuggets at No. 13. He could team up with Jokic to form a potent duo for Denver. It is hard to see Porter winning this award considering he will probably not be the primary scoring option for the Nuggets this season.

The Field at odds of +400 does have some value because there are a few players who could legitimately win the 2018-2019 Rookie of the Year award. One of those players is Collin Sexton who went to the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron James decided to bolt Cleveland for the Lakers so Sexton will likely be one of the primary scoring options along with Kevin Love for the Cavaliers. Sexton has already drawn comparisons to Kyrie Irving.

Another player who could have a great rookie season is Mikal Bridges who went to Phoenix. He was drafted by the 76ers and then traded to the Suns. Bridges is more NBA ready than most of this year’s rookie class and he could surprise this season with the Suns.

2018-2019 NBA Rookie of the Year Award Pick

You can obviously make a case for any of the top four players winning Rookie of the Year. I don’t think there is any value in Bagley as the top choice and I am not taking Young simply because I don’t agree that he is going to be the next Steph Curry. I like Doncic as my top choice simply because the media is already in love with him and the media votes for the winner of this award.

Doncic can also do more than just score, as he is a great playmaker. I do think that Ayton has some value at odds of +500, but I am concerned that Bridges could take away some votes. Also, I think Sexton could put up great numbers this season in Cleveland and that makes the field a consideration at odds of +400.
