Janel McCarville had 21 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Liberty, who improved to 2-2 on their five-game road trip. New York (9-8) finishes its stretch at San Antonio on Tuesday.

The Liberty led by as much as 16 in the first half and 18 in the second half. The Mercury never got closer than six after halftime.

Phoenix scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 74-68 with 7:33 left. McCarville then scored six points in an 11-2 run to secure the win.

Phoenix got as close as six in the second quarter but Catherine Kraayeveld hit a 3-pointer and made a couple of layups to give New York a 45-32 cushion. The Liberty led 48-35 at the break.

Kraayeveld added 14 points and nine rebounds for New York.

The Liberty made a season-high 12 of 25 from beyond the 3-point line.

Phoenix, the highest-scoring team in the WNBA at 88.8 points a game, made just 30 of 78 (39 percent) shots from the field and was 3-of-17 (17 percent) from beyond the arc.

Phoenix played its second consecutive game without second-leading scorer Cappie Pondexter, due to fatigue.

The Mercury's previous loss was at New York, 105-72, on June 22.
