2018 AFC North Division Odds

The Pittsburgh Steelers have controlled the AFC North Division recently, winning the title in three of the last four years and the Steelers have won the AFC North eight times since 2002. The Steelers are odds-on favorites to win the division this year, while the Baltimore Ravens are the second choice.

The Cincinnati Bengals are the third choice in the betting, while the Cleveland Browns are a big longshot. Let’s look at each of these teams heading into the 2018 season.

Odd to Win 2018 AFC North  - per BetDSI
Pittsburgh Steelers -270
Baltimore Ravens +285
Cincinnati Bengals +660
Cleveland Browns +2750

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers are coming off another AFC North Division title and yet another playoff loss. Last year the Steelers didn’t even make it to the AFC Championship Game, as they were beaten by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Divisional Playoffs. The Steelers still have their Triple B’s, but Ben Roethlisberger is now 36 years old and Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell are injury prone.

The Steelers did find a new offensive weapon last year in JuJu Smith-Schuster but it was not all good news for the Steelers a year ago, as they lost linebacker Ryan Shazier to injury. Whether or not the Steelers win the AFC North in 2018 probably comes down to health. If they can keep Roethlisberger, Brown and Bell on the field, the Steelers should be AFC North champs again.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens should have made the playoffs a year ago, but they couldn’t take care of business against the Bengals in the season finale. Baltimore made a number of moves to improve their offense, as they signed Michael Crabtree, John Brown, and Willie Snead. The Ravens also took Lamar Jackson in the NFL Draft, hoping he will be the heir apparent to Joe Flacco.

The Ravens should be improved offensively this season with their new receivers and Baltimore already has a good rushing attack led by Alex Collins. Baltimore almost always has a good defense and they could be even better in 2018, as cornerback Tavon Young returns from injury. The Ravens could be a threat to Pittsburgh in the AFC North this season, but they don’t have a lot of value, as they are listed with odds of just under 3/1.

Cincinnati Bengals

For some reason the Bengals still have Marvin Lewis as their head coach. The Bengals have never won a playoff game under Lewis, yet he is back for his 15th season. The Bengals were rotten on offense last season, and even A.J. Green couldn’t make enough plays to save them. Andy Dalton looked like the below average quarterback everything thinks he is and the team couldn’t recover from their 0-3 start. The one positive on offense was Joe Mixon, who had a solid rookie season. The defense was poor last season and they will be without linebacker Vontaze Burfict for the first four games this season.

The Bengals will have a new defensive coordinator in Teryl Austin who comes over from Detroit, so perhaps he will change things up in 2018. We know the Bengals won’t win in the playoffs under Lewis, but they could surprise and win again in the regular season if everything goes well and they do have some value to win the division at odds of more than 6-1.

Cleveland Browns

The most interesting team in the AFC North this season should be the Cleveland Browns. They should be vastly improved on offense with either Tyrod Taylor or Baker Mayfield running things and the addition of Jarvis Landry gives Cleveland a reliable receiver to go along with the explosive Josh Gordon. Cleveland also brought in Carlos Hyde to team up with Duke Johnson in the backfield.

The defense should also be improved with the addition of Damarious Randall, T.J. Carrie and E.J. Gaines. While Cleveland will be improved, going from 0-16 to winning the AFC North in just one season seems extremely unlikely. It also doesn’t help that the Browns are still coached by Hue Jackson. Cleveland will be better in 2018, but it is too much of a stretch to see the Browns winning the AFC North this season.
