NFL Preview- Kansas City Chiefs at Pittsburgh Steelers

Everything came up aces for the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 of the regular season, as they went on the road and blitzed the Chargers from all angles. The Chiefs can really announce themselves as an AFC contender by knocking off the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road in Week 2.

The Steelers are dealing with a good bit of strife. They are coming off a disappointing overtime tie against the Cleveland Browns in the opener and are still waiting for star running back Le’Veon Bell to report as the sides are deadlocked in a contract dispute. Additionally, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is dealing with an injury so there are plenty of concerns in Pittsburgh right now.

It’s important not to overreact to the opening week success of the Chiefs but another victory here would definitely start turning some heads in NFL betting.

This NFL football game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers will be held at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 1 p.m ET on Sunday, September 16th, 2018. The game will be nationally televised on CBS.

We'll have NFL football odds at available for every game of the 2018 NFL season.

Odds Analysis

The Steelers are listed as 4.5-point favorites for this game, and that is assuming that Roethlisberger will be good to go. The line has dropped a point and the Chiefs could be a popular underdog pick in this one. Pittsburgh are the -215 favorite to win this game while Kansas City is listed as the +180 underdog.

The scoring total is listed at 53 points as the oddsmakers expect a high-octane showing from the offenses in this one in NFL wagering.

Injury Update

Roethlisberger has not practiced in either of the first two days on the field because of an elbow injury. If he can get back out there on Friday he should be able to play, but if not it becomes a little dicey. However, the oddsmakers have not taken the spread off the board so they seem confident Roethlisberger will be ready to go. Josh Dobbs is his backup.

Steelers cornerback Joe Haden has also missed the first two days of practice, and Pittsburgh needs all the defensive backs it can have against an explosive Chiefs offense. Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes has a cannon and found Tyreek Hill regularly against the Chargers.

The Chiefs did not have star safety Eric Berry in the first two practices this week because of a heel injury and he seems likely to miss this contest. Keep an eye on that situation.

Player To Watch

James Conner -- The Steelers are not going to have Bell for the foreseeable future as he continues to hold out, but if Conner continues to play like he did in the opener it won’t be a glaring absence. Conner carried the ball 31 times for 135 yards and two touchdowns while adding 57 receiving yards.

He is going to be a big part of the offense in this one. The Chiefs’ main goal will be limiting Steelers star receiver Antonio Brown from dominating but Conner is someone else that deserves a lot of attention.

The better he plays the less worried Steelers fans have to be about the Bell situation.

Free NFL ATS Picks

The Chiefs looked great last week and are being completely underestimated. Roethlisberger is banged up and even though Conner had a good first game, Bell’s absence is a big one. Kansas City is the easy choice to cover the spread and may even be able to pull the upset. Roll with the Chiefs in this one in NFL betting. The “over” is the pick on the scoring total as this one is going to be a shootout.

NFL ATS Pick: Kansas City Chiefs 31, Pittsburgh Steelers 30
