Handicapping Oakland (9.5)
Check out more NFL Future Odds at!

Expectations are high that the Oakland Raiders will bounce back from a poor season in 2017 to win the AFC West in 2018. The Raiders have a new head coach in Jon Gruden, a quarterback in Derek Carr who is expected to rebound from a subpar season and a schedule that is favorable.

2018 Oakland Raiders Win Total - per
Over 9.5 (-130)
Under 9.5 (+100)

The Raiders won 12 games two years ago and slipped to 6-10 last season. Oddsmakers believe Oakland is going to be closer to a 12 win team than to last year’s six win squad, as the win total for the Raiders is set at 9.5. Let’s look at the schedule for the Raiders and see if Oakland will go over or under that number.

2018 Oakland Raiders Schedule Analysis

Week 1 (Sept. 9): vs. Los Angeles Rams
The season opener for the Raiders is no bargain, as they host a very talented Los Angeles Rams team. This is also a mentor-protégé matchup, as Gruden goes up against Sean McVay. This one could go either way.

Week 2 (Sept. 16): at Denver
The Broncos are going to be a lot better than they were a year ago with Case Keenum at quarterback. This could be a road loss for the Raiders.

Week 3 (Sept. 23): at Miami
The Raiders won in Miami last season and there is no reason to think they won’t win again, as the Dolphins are not considered one of the top teams in the NFL.

Week 4 (Sept. 30): vs. Cleveland
The Browns are going to be better, but they still are very unlikely to go into Oakland and get a win.

Week 5 (Oct. 7): at L.A. Chargers
The Chargers have no real home field advantage with this game in Carson. The Raiders are very capable of getting this win and it would not be a surprise if they are listed as the favorite.

Week 6 (Oct. 15): vs. Seattle (at London)
The Seahawks are no longer the best team in the NFC West and this is a game that the Raiders can win. It will come down to which team handles the travel to London better.

Week 7 (Oct. 21): BYE

Week 8 (Oct. 28): vs. Indianapolis
The Colts are not a good team even with Andrew Luck at quarterback. They are very unlikely to go into Oakland and win against a Raiders team coming off a bye.

Week 9 (Nov. 4): at San Francisco
This will be a Thursday night game that should be excellent, as the 49ers are considered one of the top teams in the NFC. This looks like a road loss for Oakland.

Week 10 (Nov.11): vs. Los Angeles Chargers
You might think that playing at home against the Chargers would be a good thing, but Oakland has lost two of the last three at home to the Chargers. It could be three out of four when this one is over.

Week 11 (Nov. 15): at Arizona
The Cardinals are not considered a good team, but they are still tough to play at home and this may not be easy for Oakland.

Week 12 (Nov. 25): at Baltimore
Winning at Baltimore is never easy and in this case the Raiders are traveling to play an early game. This looks like another road defeat.

Week 13 (Dec. 2): vs. Kansas City
The Chiefs are a tough team to figure out, as they may not be as good as they were with a second-year quarterback in Patrick Mahomes at the helm. This should be a home win for the Raiders.

Week 14 (Dec. 9): vs. Pittsburgh
The Raiders face a tough test against a talented Pittsburgh offense. This game should be a Sunday night shootout.

Week 15 (Dec. 16): at Cincinnati
Winning on the road in cold weather is not easy for a West Coast team and the Raiders will have their hands full with the Bengals.

Week 16 (Dec. 23): vs. Denver
This game could go a long way toward deciding the winner of the AFC West this season. The Raiders in prime time should be the pick in this one.

Week 17 (Dec. 30): at Kansas City
The Raiders almost never play well in Kansas City. It will be interesting to see if that changes under Gruden.

2018 Oakland Raiders Season Win Total Pick

It looks like the oddsmakers have the win total for the Raiders right on the money. A 9-7 or 10-6 season for Oakland is the most likely outcome.
