Parlay Leg 1 - Cubs vs Mets
The Cubs have taken two of the first three games of this series, but I think that the struggling Adrian Houser is the correct call here in the finale of this four-game set.
Chicago won 1-0 yesterday. All three games have so far been tight.
Ben Brown (0-1, 4.30 ERA) gave up three runs over three innings in a 17-0 loss to Boston on Saturday. Brown is a rookie and this is the first time he's faced the Mets.
Houser gave up six runs over five innings ina 7-4 loss to the Cards in his last outing. So far Houser has struggled to open the year, but a date vs. Chicago is just what the doctor ordered to get back on track in my estimation as he's 3-2 with a 3.74 ERA in 13 career games vs. the Cubs.
Give me Houser and the METS to bounce back here at home this afternoon.
Parlay Leg 2 - Giants vs Red Sox
The Giants' offense has struggled so much that even Juan Marichal in his heyday would have had trouble generating results with this sort of run support, which actually extends to midway in the recently-completed homestand, with only 13 runs scored across the past seven games.
That makes things rougher on starters like Kyle Harrison, who did fire six shutout innings vs. the punchless Pirates last Friday, when three SF runs were more than enough to stand up, but had struggled with a 5.57 ERA in his four previous starts.
That's also now eight wins in the last eleven for the ascending Bosox, who have been able to rely upon a few solid innings from "extended closer" Josh Winckowski, who has been able to go through the opposing order once without two much damage in his last two (albeit short) starts before turning things over to his bullpen, which hasn't allowed a run in six innings vs. the Giants bats the last two nights.
