NBA Playoffs Expert Free Picks for Friday, May 3
Our VI basketball betting experts have compiled their NBA picks for Friday, May 3 and they're focusing on the matchups below:
- Cleveland Cavaliers vs Orlando Magic (7:00 p.m. ET)
- Los Angeles Clippers vs Dallas Mavericks (9:30 p.m. ET)
Cavaliers vs Magic Free Picks
The Magic are growing up in a hurry, one point away from stealing Game 5 on Tuesday night, but now back at home where they can even this series and force a Game 7 on Sunday in Cleveland.
Orlando, which romped in Games 3 o and 4 vs. the Cavs, is now 32-12 SU this season at the now-called Kia Center, and the visiting Cavs are once again minus C Jarrett Allen, a key cog in the middle for JB Bickerstaff.
Paolo Banchero is rising to the moment for the Magic, and note that the intense defense preached by Jamahl Mosley kept Cleveland beneath 100 points in each of the first four games of this series.

Clippers vs Mavericks Free Picks
Dallas dominated Game 5 to take a 3-2 series lead into tonight's game with the Clippers, now playing as a healthy favorite to close out the series to line up a conference semifinals path against the Thunder. Game 6 home favorites in the first round coming off a Game 5 win have fared poorly historically including a 2-10 ATS mark since 2005 with the 76ers failing in that role last night.
Overall Round 1, Game 6 hosts are just 23-50-1 ATS since 2005 as these are the lesser seeded teams, though often the host is sitting down 2-3 in the series, and not up 3-2 like Dallas is tonight. This is still a rare price as not since 2016 has a Round 1 Game 6 host been this big of a favorite. That last instance was a S/U win but an ATS loss for Portland and favorites of 7 or more in this situation are just 1-3 ATS since 2007.
Dallas shot more than 16 percent better than the Clippers overall in Game 5 and more than 10 percent better from 3-point range, numbers that will be difficult to replicate in any situation. The Clippers had 15 turnovers on Wednesday and ultimately mailed it in during the second half as the Mavericks pulled away.
The Clippers did win Game 4 in Dallas with their backs against the wall with Paul George and James Harden playing tremendously down the stretch and the Game 2 and Game 3 wins for Dallas were close games as justifying the largest spread of the series tonight is difficult. Luka Doncic has shot just over 41 percent in this series including just 26 percent from 3-point range as his 35-point performance on 54 percent shooting on Wednesday was the clear outlier in this series.
Expect the Clippers to compete well with currently more S/U road wins than Dallas has S/U home wins this season. Dallas is 22-21 ATS at home for the season but has failed to top 111 points in seven of the past nine home games despite a solid late season ATS run and the Mavericks are just 13-19 S/U vs. top 10 teams this season despite the current momentum.
