White Sox hammer Angels, 'over' cashes

CHICAGO (AP) -Juan Uribe homered twice, Paul Konerko added a solo shot and Mark Buehrle pitched six shutout innings to help the Chicago White Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels 10-2 in a meeting of division leaders on Friday night.

The White Sox didn't miss AL home run leader Carlos Quentin, who will undergo surgery Monday on a fractured right wrist and could be lost for the season.

And Uribe showed again he can help the White Sox at third base in the absence of Joe Crede, who is sidelined with a sore back. Manager Ozzie Guillen said before the game that he didn't expect Crede back during the regular season.

Buehrle (12-11) allowed only three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts to win for the fourth time in his last five decisions.

Los Angeles began the night with a magic number of six for clinching the AL West. The White Sox maintained their 1 1/2-game lead over Minnesota in the AL Central.

The White Sox got a fortunate bounce in the first when Konerko's topped roller up the third base line hit the grass in foul territory and unexpectedly angled fair, giving the slow Chicago first baseman an infield single to load the bases with two outs.

Ken Griffey Jr. followed with a two-run single off Dustin Moseley (1-4), who gave up six hits and four runs in 1 1-3 innings.

Uribe hit his first two-run homer in the second and after A.J. Pierzynski and Jermaine Dye hit back-to-back singles in the same inning, manager Mike Scioscia had seen enough and yanked Moseley, bringing in Darren Oliver.

Oliver gave up a solo shot to Konerko leading off the third and after a two-out walk to Nick Swisher, Uribe lined his second of the game and seventh of the season into the left-field bullpen.

Alexei Ramirez hit a two-run single in the sixth after a strange play featuring a towering popup from Griffey. With runners at first and second and one out, Griffey's popup landed fair just in front of the plate. Even though the Angels threw to third and second hoping to get a double play, the umpires conferred and ruled Griffey out on an infield fly rule, meaning the runners had to be tagged.

Left fielder DeWayne Wise, who came off the White Sox's disabled list Friday, mishandled Chone Figgins' single in the seventh for an error, allowing the Angels' first run to score. Garret Anderson then followed with an RBI single before Dye made a great diving catch in right center to rob Mark Teixeira of extra bases.

Notes: It was Uribe's seventh multihomer game. His most recent came Sept. 11, 2007, vs. the Indians. ... Angels 2B Howie Kendrick (strained left hamstring) and SS Erick Aybar (tight left hamstring) are both scheduled to take batting practice on Saturday and run the bases on Monday. ... White Sox reliever Scott Linebrink, who came off the DL four days ago, made his first appearance since July 22. He'd been sidelined by a sore shoulder. ... The White Sox had 15 hits.
