ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Rangers designated hitter Milton Bradley, second in the American League in hitting, was scratched from the starting lineup Saturday night against Boston because of left wrist soreness.
The team said Bradley, whose .327 average trailed only Dustin Pedroia's .332, was available to pinch-hit if needed.
Frank Catalanotto remained in the leadoff spot, but became the designated hitter instead of playing left field. Brandon Boggs started the game in left field and batted second.
Texas was already without Marlon Byrd, the left fielder who sprained his left thumb while trying to make a diving catch Friday night. Byrd had more swelling in his thumb Saturday.
