CALGARY FLAMES vs. DALLAS STARS PREDICTIONS

The Flames outlasted the Stars by a 1-0 score in Game 1, as Jacob Markstrom outlasted Jake Oettinger for the shutout win. In Game 2, it was another low-scoring contest, as the Stars outlasted the Flames by a 2-0 score, as Joe Pavelski scored the even-strength goal, while Michael Raffl notched the empty-net goal for insurance. The UNDER has cashed in each of the first two games of this series, and it hasn't even been close.

Markstrom was outstanding in Game 2, posting 21 saves on 22 shots, but Oettinger was just a little better with 29 saves for his first-career playoff shutout. Now, the series shifts to Dallas, and the OVER is 3-1-1 in the past five meetings in Dallas, with the favorite going 6-2 in the previous eight meetings. The only game in Dallas this season between the teams was a 4-3 win by the Flames, as Oettinger outdueled Dan Vladar on Feb. 1 as the OVER connected.

CALGARY FLAMES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 51-22-11
  • ATS: 45-39
  • O/U: 40-37-7

This series has been a stark contrast to the three regular-season meetings which saw at least six total goals in each of the outings, with 20 total goals in three games. So far in two games in this season, we have had a total of just three goals. Eventually you have to figure we're going to see a ton of goals at some point in this series, although Markstrom is playing with a lot of confidence, and so is Oettinger.

Calgary has managed seven victories in the past 10 games on the road, while going 4-1 in the past five playoff games as a favorite, and 17-6 in the past 23 when favored on the road.

For totals, the UNDER is on a 4-0 run across the past four outings, while going 6-2-1 in the past nine games on the road. The UNDER is also 4-0 in the past four games as a favorite, and 6-1-1 in the past eight in the playoffs when favored.

DALLAS STARS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 47-31-6
  • ATS: 36-48
  • O/U: 35-47-3

The Stars have picked up four wins in the past five games in the Western Conference Quarterfinals, while going 4-1 in the past five games at home, too. However, the Stars have managed a 2-5 record in the past seven games as an underdog, while going 2-5 in the past seven in the postseason as a 'dog.

The UNDER has cashed in six of the past eight games at home, while going 4-1 in the past five as a home underdog. The UNDER is also 3-0-1 in the past four as an underdog, while going 3-0-1 in the past four playoff games as a 'dog, too.

CALGARY FLAMES vs. DALLAS STARS CONCLUSION

We have had a total of just three goals through the first two games in this series, and one of those goals was of the empty-net variety. Scoring is up all over the NHL in the postseason, but apparently these teams didn't hear anything about that.

It's crazy, too, as the OVER is 3-1-1 in the past five meetings in this series, including 6.7 combined goals per game in the three regular-season outings. The OVER is also 3-1-1 in the past five meetings in Dallas, too, so we are definitely going to see offense on Saturday night, right? According to the trends, yes, but according to the two goalies so far in this series, no. I'll take more recent history over historical trends any day of the week. I do like the Stars on home ice, too, in another lower-scoring game.
