ST. LOUIS BLUES vs. COLORADO AVALANCHE PREDICTIONS

The Blues put up a tremendous effort in Game 1, including a 1-0 lead after the first period thanks to Ryan O'Reilly. The big man has posted goals in five consecutive playoff games, and six of seven postseason games so far, trying to will his team to victories.

In the second period it was all Colorado, as Valeri Nichushkin and Samuel Girard struck for goals to make it 2-1 in favor of the home side. However, a third-period power-play goal by Jordan Kyrou at 16:46 of the third period ended up forcing overtime. However, it was Josh Manson beating Jordan Binnington at 8:02 of the extra session to give the Avalanche the win in Game 1.

Unfortunately for Binner, he faced 12 shots in the overtime session, while his offense was unable to muster even one shot in OT. That, and the fact that the Blues didn't allow goals to any of the big stars like Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon or Cale Makar cannot be seen as a good sign for the Blues.

ST. LOUIS BLUES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 53-25-11
  • ATS: 52-37
  • O/U: 46-38-5

The Blues played a tremendous game in the opener, sans for the lack of shots in overtime. But the fact they forced the top seed in the Western Conference to go to OT was about as good as you can hope for on the road. But St. Louis still came up short, and that's after the big names for Colorado didn't score. You can bet that the Avalanche will be able to get some of the big stars on track heading into Game 2.

Despite the loss in Game 1, the Blues are 9-3 in the past 12 road games, while going 6-2 in the past eight as an underdog. However, they're still just 3-8 in the past 11 playoff games as an underdog.

For totals, the UNDER is now 3-0-1 in the past four Conference Semifinals Round games. However, it's been all about the OVER recently, hitting at a 13-3-1 clip in the past 17 road outings, while going 22-10-1 in the past 33 games overall. The Blues will score some goals in Game 2, but it is feared that the Avalanche will also light the lamp more frequently, too.

COLORADO AVALANCHE BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 61-19-7
  • ATS: 42-45
  • O/U: 45-37-5

The Avalanche didn't play its best game, but still opened this series with a victory. Darcy Kuemper returned from an eye injury to post 23 saves on 25 shots in Game 1. He didn't have to face any shots in the overtime session, allowing just one even-strength goal and a power-play marker in regulation.

Colorado has won 49 of the past 66 games overall, while going 55-11 in the past 66 games at Ball Arena. They're also a very impressive 22-8 in the past 30 playoff games as a favorite, although the Avalanche failed to cover the puck line in the OT win. And the Avs are still just 7-17 in the past 24 Western Conference Semifinals games.

The Avalanche have hit the OVER in five of the past seven games overall despite the UNDER coming through in Game 1. The opening game of this series showed why trends are not always the way to bet without deviation.

ST. LOUIS BLUES vs. COLORADO AVALANCHE CONCLUSION

The Blues gave it their best shot in Game 1, but they're still just 1-7 in the past eight meetings with the Avalanche, and 1-7 in the past seven meetings in Denver, too. That's an ominous trend, and they're unlikely to come up with the win in Game 2. It isn't just because of the trends, but because the Avalanche didn't get goals from any of the big offensive weapons. You have to figure Landeskog, MacKinnon, Makar, Mikko Rantanen or Nazem Kadri are going to get on the board.

Look for Colorado to run out to a commanding 2-0 series lead, and this one should hit the OVER. Binnington will be under constant pressure, and the Blues should also be able to get Kuemper at least two times.
