Poland goalkeeper Boruc suspended
August 27, 2008
WARSAW, Poland (AP) -Poland goalkeeper Artur Boruc and two other players were banned from two World Cup qualifiers for their behavior after losing to Ukraine last week.
Celtic's Boruc, along with Dariusz Dudka and Radoslaw Majewski, will miss matches against Slovenia on Sept. 6 and at San Marino four days later, Poland federation spokeswoman Marta Alf said Wednesday.
Poland coach Leo Beenhakker said last week that the three would be suspended for ``irresponsible behavior.'' Beenhakker gave no further details but Polish media reports said the players got drunk after the 1-0 loss to Ukraine in a friendly match.
The three later apologized.
