Cologne captain collapses during game
August 29, 2008
KARLSRUHE, Germany (AP) -Cologne captain Umit Ozat collapsed in the 27th minute of Friday night's 2-0 victory over Karlsruhe and lost consciousness
Ozat was treated by medics, then left the field on a stretcher about 5 minutes later and was taken to a hospital. Coach Christoph Daum and goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon were crying while Ozat was being treated.
Cologne general manager Michael Meier said during halftime that Ozat was able to communicate.
``I hope that the situation is not so serious as it may have looked,'' Meier said.
Daum said after the game that the 31-year-old defender was stable.
``It does not look so dramatic now,'' Daum said
