World Cup Opening Group Odds

The World Cup draw is over, and the 30+ teams that are still in the running to win the World Cup know their path in Qatar. Brazil is still the overall favorite to win it all and saw its World Cup odds drop to 5-1 as a result of the draw. They were one of the biggest beneficiaries of the draw, but the biggest winner was the Netherlands. The Netherlands were 19-1 to win the World Cup just two days ago, but their odds fell to 11-1 after being drawn into Group A.

WORLD CUP GROUP BETTING ODDS

GROUP A WINNER

  • NETHERLANDS -160
  • SENEGAL +370
  • ECUADOR +380
  • QATAR +2400

The Dutch are elated after being drawn into Group A. They are the only Pot 2 team that is favored to win its group, and the Netherlands have a very nice path in the knockout rounds assuming they top the table. There is value in Qatar to win the group and advance though. Qatar is the reigning Asian Cup champion and will be playing with the home crowd at their backs.

GROUP B WINNER

  • ENGLAND -240
  • WALES +550
  • UKRAINE +600
  • SCOTLAND +600
  • UNITED STATES +700
  • IRAN +1100

This group will have some of the most interesting storylines at the World Cup. A lot of attention will be paid to the England vs. United States showdown, and Iran will be extremely motivated to take on two of its biggest political rivals. The Three Lions should take down this group, but we won’t know the fourth team in Group B until June.

GROUP C WINNER

  • ARGENTINA -195
  • POLAND +410
  • MEXICO +440
  • SAUDI ARABIA +3800

El Tri have made it to the Round of 16 in seven straight World Cups. They weren’t as dominant as they usually are in CONCACAF qualifying, but this is a great price to back Mexico. Argentina is in a transition phase, and Poland hasn’t made it to the knockout rounds of a World Cup since 1986.

GROUP D WINNER

  • FRANCE -250
  • DENMARK +310
  • PERU +1300
  • TUNISIA +1700
  • AUSTRALIA +2400
  • UNITED ARAB EMIRATES +3900

The defending World Cup champions were drawn in a group with Denmark back in 2018. The Danes took a point off Les Bleus, and they were the only team to hold France without a goal on its run to the World Cup. That gives Denmark hope it can potentially top the group, and talisman Christian Eriksen recently returned to action.

GROUP E WINNER

  • SPAIN -115
  • GERMANY +115
  • JAPAN +1300
  • NEW ZEALAND +10000
  • COSTA RICA +10000

This is the Group of Death. Germany was the toughest Pot 2 team by a mile, and Spain drew the short straw. Those former World Cup champions are heavy favorites to advance to the knockout rounds, while Japan and either New Zealand or Costa Rica are expected to be walkovers.

GROUP F WINNER

  • BELGIUM -160
  • CROATIA +290
  • MOROCCO +600
  • CANADA +1300

This is one of the most interesting groups. Belgium and Croatia have been two of the top teams in Europe, but their window for international glory is closing. Meanwhile, Morocco and Canada have a lot of young talent that could surprise later this year.

GROUP G WINNER

  • BRAZIL -220
  • SWITZERLAND +450
  • SERBIA +600
  • CAMEROON +1400

The best bet in the Group Stage is for Brazil to win Group G. The five-time World Cup champions have been absolutely dominant in qualifying, and they have made it to the knockout rounds of 13 straight World Cups. Switzerland, Serbia, and Cameroon will all be hard-pressed to take a point off Brazil.

GROUP H WINNER

  • PORTUGAL -160
  • URUGUAY +260
  • SOUTH KOREA +900
  • GHANA +1200

Portugal only qualified for the World Cup earlier this week, but the Portuguese earned a spot in Pot 1 and are favored to win Group H. South Korea was the second-lowest ranked team in Pot 3 and Ghana is currently the lowest ranked team in Pot 4, so the 2016 European champions should make it to the knockout rounds despite their stumbles in qualifying.
