Super Bowl LVI will be taking place on this coming Sunday, February 13th, at 6:30pm E.T. With the launch of New York mobile sports betting a few weeks ago, all eyes are on the state. Many are wondering if the Empire State will break another record during this Super Bowl betting season.

At this time, Nevada has the current record for sports betting handle on a Super Bowl Sunday. This record was set in 2018 for Super Bowl LII, when the Philadelphia Eagles beat the favored New England Patriots 41-33. The sports betting handle taken in was $158.6 million in wagers.

Receiving a boon from the NFL playoffs, New York mobile sportsbooks were able to take in almost $1.2 billion in the first 16 days after the state’s January 8th mobile sports betting launch. So, if the state continues to draw in the same kind of numbers for Super Bowl betting, it will most likely break Nevada’s record.

The state is on course to break another sports betting handle record, this one the monthly record. The record is currently held by New Jersey with an October 2021 take in of $1.3 billion. As the state seems poised to break this record, the Super Bowl betting handle record is also in its sights.

State Senator Joe Addabbo, a longtime proponent of New York sports betting, has high hopes for NFL sports betting in the state. He cited the fact that the monthly sports betting handle record is within the state’s reach. There are early predictions because of indicators that New York online sports betting could reach new levels with Super Bowl betting.

In a little over two weeks after the New York mobile sports betting launch, the sports betting apps were able to take in $1.1 billion. The Super Bowl is typically the most wagered-on sporting event each year in the country. So, that is one of the reasons this coming weekend could set a record for Empire state mobile sports betting.

New York has shown that it not only has a large population, it also has a fanbase that is particularly passionate about sports betting. With a number of active online sports betting apps in the state, New York could take in a huge handle for Super Bowl betting. Part of the relief from these operators prior to the January mobile sports betting launch in New York was from the ability to capitalize on Super Bowl betting.

State Senator Addabbo had long stressed the importance of Super Bowl betting when it comes to New York mobile sports betting and its launch. This will be the first significant benchmark for New York’s performance when it comes to mobile sports betting.

This year’s Super Bowl will see the Cincinnati Bengals face off against the Los Angeles Rams at Los Angeles’s SoFi Stadium.

The New York mobile sportsbooks that are currently launched in time for Super Bowl betting are:

The WynnBet Sportsbook is also looking to launch in the state as soon as possible. It appears that the online sportsbook has recently received the necessary regulatory approval to launch, however a launch date has not been announced. It is not known whether the online sportsbook app will be able to launch in time to capitalize on Super Bowl betting.

At this time, it is known that Bally Bet will not be able to launch in the state until some time this coming April.

It is also unknown at this time whether New York mobile sports betting will be able sustain the initial success for a prolonged period of time. The state and its apps have been able to benefit from a lot of promotional spending at this time. However, it is unknown how the sports betting handle will do when this dies down.

March Madness, another major betting season, is on the horizon. So, that betting season should be able to help New York sports betting enjoy continued success.
