Betting on the New York Mets

As one of two Major League Baseball franchises in New York, the Mets have been able to carve out a vibrant fan base over the years. This same fan base can now legally bet on the New York Mets throughout the Empire State.

New York Mets Overview

The New York Mets entered the league as a MLB expansion franchise in 1962. They earned their nickname as the Amazing Mets in their first season in the National League East by winning the 1969 World Series.

Gil Hodges was the Mets’ manager that season and Tom Seaver was the ace of New York’s starting pitcher rotation. The Mets won that world title in dominating fashion with a 4-1 best-of-seven series win against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Mets returned to the Fall Classic in 1973 with Yogi Berra at the helm as manager and Seaver still the top starter. However, they came up just short in a dramatic 4-3 World Series loss to Oakland Athletics.

New York earned its second World Series Championship in 1986 after going 108-54 in the regular season. Davey Johnson was leading the way as team manager and Keith Hernandez was now the Mets’ best player. New York beat the Boston Red Sox in a seven-game thriller that year.

The Mets would go on to lose two World Series appearances in 2000 and 2015. Yet, this helped to cement the team’s status as one of the most popular franchises in the league.

Rivalries against the Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals top the list in NL East Division play. The American League’s New York Yankees remain the Mets’ biggest foes overall.

Dubbed the “Subway Series”, when these two teams face one another it draws quite a bit of betting action in every legal state.

The easiest way to bet a Mets vs. Yankees’ game is through the MLB total line. The wager is placed on the UNDER or OVER on the combined total score. If the total line is set at 10 runs, a combined score of 11 or more runs would win a bet on the OVER.

Betting on the New York Mets in New York

Betting on New York Mets’ games in New York has been legal since 2019 in a limited fashion. Upstate New York casinos were given the right to open retail sportsbooks as part of their gaming menu.

In January of 2022, legal online sports betting went live in the entire state of New York. In-state Mets fans can legally bet on all the team’s games through an approved New York mobile sportsbook operator.

New York Mets Partnership With Sportsbooks

The Mets have yet to announce an official partnership with a US sportsbook operator. Yet, this is simply a matter of when not if. PointsBet is worth a mention in an ongoing effort to bring live betting to MLB games.

Working with the MLB on a corporate partnership, PointsBet could then partner with NBC’s affiliate station SNY. This station has the broadcast rights to New York Mets telecasts.
