at PITTSBURGH at CINCINNATI...Covers in the last two years for Pitt in this Big East rivalry (for another season, at least). Panthers were 5-1 as a dog last season while Butch Jones only 11-14 vs. spread since arriving at Cincy in 2010. Slight Pitt, based on team trends.

at UTAH at UTAH STATE...Teams haven't met since 2009, although it is interesting to note that the road team was 5-0-1 vs. the line in the last six meetings to that point. Note Utah State's home dog mark (6-6 since 2007) not nearly as good as its road dog mark (19-5 the past five seasons), and Utags just 5-8 vs. line at Logan since 2010. Utes 4-2 as road chalk LY. Slight to Utah, based on team and extended series trends.

UVa not a lot better as home chalk LY (1-3-1), although Mike London is 4-3-1 as home favorite since 2010. Slight to UVa, based on Penn State road negatives.
at INDIANA at UMASS...Very rare road chalk role for IU (1-3 since 2007), although the Hoosiers have covered 7 of 12 away from Bloomington the past two years. Slight to IU, based on team trends.
at AIR FORCE at MICHIGAN...While at SDSU, Brady Hoke was 1-1 SU vs. Air Force but managed spread covers in each. Troy Calhoun 5-1 vs. line away LY and 20-13 vs. spread on road since taking over in 2007, but he's only 2-4 as DD road dog that span. Wolverines 5-2 vs. line at Big House LY and also 5-2 vs. spread vs. non-Big Ten foes in Ann Arbor the past two years. Slight to Air Force, based on team trends.
at NEW MEXICO STATE at OHIO...DeWayne Walker 9-5 vs. line since last season. Frank Solich 1-4 as home chalk LY and 0-3 vs. line laying DDs at Athens in 2011. NMSU, based on team trends.
at KENT STATE at KENTUCKY...Joker 4-2 vs. line at home vs. non-conference foes since 2010. Joker also 5-2 as home chalk since taking over Cats in 2010. Golden Flashes only 1-5 vs. line as dog for Hazel LY and 4-10 as the short since 2010. UK, based on team trends.
at UCF at OHIO STATE...Urban Meyer was 32-16 as chalk since 2007. But George O'Leary is 13-7 his last 20 as road dog since mid-2006. Slight to UCF, based on O'Leary extended road dog mark.

at NORTH CAROLINA at WAKE FOREST... Teams met LY for first time since 2007. Grobe 5-2 vs. line at home LY and 7-4-1 in role since 2010. Slight to Wake Forest, based on Grobe trends.
at GEORGIA at MISSOURI...Mark Richt 8-3 vs. spread as road chalk the past two years. Pinkel only 13-15 vs. line at home since '07 and 2-3 as home dog that span. Georgia, based on team trends.
at MIAMI-FL at KANSAS STATE...Bill Snyder 9-4 vs. line LY, although he's only 2-4 as Manhattan chalk the past two years. Al "Touch of" Golden 4-1 as dog since LY and 19-8 in role since 2007 at Temple and Miami. Miami, based on Al Golden's extended dog marks.
at MICHIGAN STATE at CENTRAL MICHIGAN...Dan Enos failed to cover again in opener for CMU and Chips now 1-12 vs. line since last season and now 7-18 vs. number since Enos arrived in 2010. Chips 4-11 as dog since then as well. Dantonio 4-1 as road chalk since 2010 (though 0-1 laying DDs in role). Michigan State, based on CMU/Enos negatives.
at USC vs. SYRACUSE (East Rutherford, New Jersey)...Trojans were 4-1 vs. line away LY (covering last four) and Lane Kiffin is 8-4 vs. spread away from Coliseum since arriving in 2010. Kiffin 2-2 laying DDs away that span. Marrone 3-10 vs. number since 2011 and just 4-8 as dog since 2010 (1-6 as dog LY). Southern Cal, based on team trends.
at PURDUE at NOTRE DAME...Brian Kelly covered only 7 of 19 as chalk in his first two years as the ND coach, although he's 1-0-1 vs. line against Purdue since 2010 and rolled by 38-10 count LY at Ross-Ade Stadium. Boilermakers haven't beaten Irish since 2007 and have covered just one of last five in series. Note Danny Hope only 2-4-1 as DD road dog since 2010. Slight to Purdue, based on subpar ND/Kelly chalk mark.
at SOUTH FLORIDA at NEVADA...Skip Holtz 1-8 vs. line last nine in 2011 and if Bulls are favored note Skip's 5-10 mark as chalk the past two seasons. Pack 12-1 SU at home the past two years and if Chris Ault getting points note his 5-2 dog mark since 2010. Nevada, especially if dog, based on team trends.
at WISCONSIN at OREGON STATE...Badgers bounced Beavs 35-0 LY at Madison and Mike Riley just 4-8 vs. line at Corvallis the past two seasons, but note his 20-10-1 dog mark since 2007 (5-3 as home dog). Bielema only 1-5-1 vs. line away LY and just 3-6-1 as road chalk since 2010. Oregon State, based on team trends.
at FRESNO STATE at OREGON...Pat Hill's Fresno was 4-1 as a road dog LY and 13-7 in role from 2007-11 (5-3 as DD road dog). Chip Kelly has failed to cover last 6 as DD chalk in Eugene. Fresno, based on team trends.
at EAST CAROLINA at SOUTH CAROLINA... Ruffin McNeill got the cover in this game a year ago at Charlotte but his ECU is just 4-7 as a road dog the past two seasons. Slight to South Carolina, based on ECU/McNeill road dog negatives.
at IOWA STATE at IOWA...Revenge for Iowa after 44-41 OT loss LY, but Cyclones have covered six of last eight meetings and 5 of last 6 trips to Iowa City. Paul Rhoads 8-4 as dog since LY; Kirk Ferentz 5-9 vs. spread since 2011. ISU, based on series trends.
at WASHINGTON at LSU...Steve Sarkisian only 5-9 as dog since 2010. Les Miles a bit better vs. line at home LY (3-3) after 9-18 mark in role from 2007-10. Miles only 11-19 as home chalk since 2007. Miles also only 1-6 last 7 and 3-8 last 11 vs. number hosting non-conference foes. Slight to UW, based on extended LSU home chalk and non-conference woes.
at UTEP at OLE MISS...Hugh Freeze 11-2 vs. line since LY at Ark State and Ole Miss including 6-1 home chalk mark. Mike Price only 5-6 as road dog since 2010. Ole Miss, based on Hugh Freeze chalk marks.
 vs AUBURN at MISSISSIPPI STATE...Auburn covered last two vs. MSU and has covered last 3 and 8 of last 10 meetings. If Chizik a dog note 1-5 mark on road in role since LY, and note Chizik's 1-6 spread mark last seven on SEC road without Cam Newton as his QB. MSU, based on Auburn non-Cam negatives.
at TEXAS TECH at TEXAS STATE... Tuberville 5-2 as road chalk the past two seasons and 2-0 laying DD away from Lubbock. Texas Tech, based on team trends.
 vs MARYLAND at TEMPLE...Edsall has dropped 11 of last 12 vs. number for Maryland. Addazio 10-4 vs. line since LY and Temple 40-22 vs. spread (much of that Al Golden's doing) since 2007, also 20-10 vs. line at home that span. Temple, based on team trends.
at NEW MEXICO at TEXAS...Mack covered all three as DD home chalk LY after wretched home performance in 2010. But Mack just 14-18 vs. line as host since 2007 after non-cover vs. Wyo. Lobos were 1-6 as DD road dog the last two seasons. Slight to Texas, based on team trends.
at FLORIDA at TEXAS A&M...A&M only 4-9 vs. line LY but note Muschamp only 5-9 vs. spread since LY, and if Gators a dog note 0-5 mark in role LY and 1-7 since 2010. Slight to A&M, based on team trends.
at LOUISIANA TECH at HOUSTON...This becomes La Tech's opener after the Texas A&M rainout. Sonny Dykes was one of hottest spread coach in the country last year when LT covered its last eight games. Earlier in the season, the Bulldogs blew a big lead vs. UH but still managed a spread cover. Dykes also 8-0 vs. line away LY and 7-0 as a dog in 2011. La Tech, based on team trends.
at NEBRASKA at UCLA...Neuheisel was just 8-14 vs. line as dog the past two seasons but let's see what Mora can do. Bruins 33-16 vs. spread their last 49 at Rose Bowl since early in 2004 campaign. UCLA, based on extended home marks.
at ARMY at SAN DIEGO STATE...Army took SDSU to wire at West Point LY in 23-20 Aztec escape at Michie. Ellerson had problems in once-profitable road role LY, covering just 2 of 6 away from Michie. Rocky Long, however, just 3-6 as chalk LY, and 12-18 last 30 as chalk at New Mexico & SDSU. Army, based on extended Rocky Long chalk woes.
at N.C. STATE at UCONN...Pasqualoni just 4-4 vs. line as host since LY but extended UConn home numbers are good (10-4 since 2010 and 21-10 since 2007). Huskies also 9-1 as home dog for Pasqualoni and Edsall since 2007. Meanwhile, O'Brien 1-4 as road chalk since 2010. UConn, based on team trends.
at TULANE at TULSA...Tulsa has vaporized Tulane in recent years, winning and covering last seven meetings, all by 24 points or more. Tulsa, based on series trends.
at VANDERBILT at NORTHWESTERN...Rematch of 2010 opener when NU squeezed out a 23-21 win at Nashville over Robbie Caldwell's lone Vandy side. The James Franklin Dores are now 10-4 vs. the number and have covered 7 of their last 9 on the board as well. Vandy 5-2 as dog for Franklin. NU 3-8 vs. line at Evanston since 2010 and 9-20 since 2007, also 4-12 as home Welsh-Ryan Dyche chalk that span. Vandy, especially if dog, based on team trends.
at DUKE at STANFORD...Didn't look like the same Stanford in the opener vs. SJSU. Tree was 18-6 as chalk in 2010-11 but 0-1 in role TY. Cutcliffe 11-7-2 as dog since 2010 and Duke is 16-9-2 vs. line as road dog since 2007. Slight to Duke, based on Cutcliffe markss.
at OKLAHOMA STATE at ARIZONA...OSU has pounded UA the last two years (including Alamo Bowl 2010), with Gundy winning and covering each by near-identical 36-10 & 37-14 scorelines. Cats only 5-9 vs. line in Tucson since 2010 and 9-17 overall vs. spread that span. Also just 3-6 as dog the past two seasons. OSU was 9-2 as road chalk in 2010-11. OSU, based on team and recent series trends.
at ILLINOIS at ARIZONA STATE...Todd Graham teams 17-10 vs. line last 27 on board (Tulsa, Pitt, ASU). Tim Beckman Toledo teams just 5-5 as dog the past two seasons. Zook's Illini teams were 10-5 as road dog from 2007-11. Slight to ASU, based on Graham's recent marks.

at LOUISIANA at TROY...Hudspeth's ULL 10-4 vs. spread since LY and 7-1 vs. line on road. Cajuns have covered last two meetings after Trojans had won and covered previous five. ULL, based on recent trends
at FLORIDA ATLANTIC at MIDDLE TENNESSEE...Owls are now 6-19 vs. line since 2010, and FAU has lost by identical 38-14 scores to Stockstill the past two seasons. Blue Raiders have won and covered last three in this Sun Belt series, and though Stockstill only 7-19 vs. line himself since 2010, he's been able to dominate FAU. MTSU, based on recent series trends.
at MEMPHIS at ARKANSAS STATE...Ark State eviscerated Memphis 47-3 LY en route to 10-3 spread mark. Red Wolves were 8-3 as chalk for Hugh Freeze LY (5-1 in role at Jonesboro) while Memphis was just 8-15 as dog past two years for the now-concluded Larry Porter regime. Ark State, based on team trends.
at UL-MONROE at ARKANSAS (at Little Rock)...The last time ULM visited Arkansas it almost pulled off a major upset in 2008, losing only 28-27. Petrino's Arkansas was 11-3 vs. line at home and 13-5 as chalk (10-2 as home chalk, 6-3 laying DD as host) the past two seasons, let's see what John L. can do. Arkansas, based on team trends.
at WESTERN KENTUCKY at ALABAMA...WKU now on 10-game cover streak and Tops have covered all last six away, including LY at LSU. Nick, however, 10-4 as home chalk since 2010 (8-3 laying DD) and 26-13 overall vs. spread 2009-11. Slight to WKU, based on recent trends.
