Arkansas' Derby making most of move to TE
April 23, 2014
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - AJ Derby wanted to give the quarterback position every chance he could.
However, with his playing time in jeopardy as he approached his final season of college football, the Arkansas senior heeded the advice of coach Bret Bielema and switched to tight end prior to the start of spring practice.
It's a move that has paid immediate dividends for both Arkansas and its former Iowa transfer, who has been the surprise of the spring for the recovering Razorbacks.
Derby was 19-of-36 passing (52.8 percent) for 178 yards as Brandon Allen's backup last season for the Razorbacks, who went winless in the Southeastern Conference and lost their final nine games on the way to a 3-9 record.
