Florida St/Miami, Fl was a strange game and FSU dominated with a 272-52 yd edge and led 24-3 at the half. UM got back in it with an 18 yd drive after a fmbl, a bad snap on a punt which resulted in a safety, a double pass for a 51 yd TD and a 3 yd IR TD with 11:23 left. Kansas had their biggest comeback since 1992 which ironically was also vs Iowa St, a game they trailed by 26 but won 50-47. Wyoming leads the NCAA in TO's and threw an int on the first play vs New Mexico which was ret'd 13 yds for a TD. The Lobos went with the run offense after that hitting just 9 of 19 for 71 yds and NM finished with 350-201 yd and 18-12 FD edges in their 24-0 shutout win despite the fact that RB Rodney Ferguson did not play...

Wisconsin had a 16 game home win streak and won 11 straight games at night but Ohio St ended those streaks with a 20-17 road win. Beanie Wells rushed for 168 yds on 22 carries showing he is recovered from his early season injury.

Connecticut had a 23-13 FD edge, 378-273 yd edge vs N Carolina but not only had 3 TO's including a 23 yd IR TD, but suffered 3 blk'd punts including one that was returned for a TD. Frenso St had a 24-14 FD edge vs Hawaii, 522-342 yd edge but the Bulldogs turned it over six times, their most since 2000 (lost it 6 times vs Ohio St). FSU ironically came in having lost just 4 TO's in the first 4 games but even without Mathews, two RB's topped 100 yards with Lonyae Miller rushing for 161 and Anthony Harding 157. FSU K Kevin Goessling missed 3 crucial FG's vs Wisconsin and had a 36 yd FG blk'd with :43 left then missed a FG in OT in their loss. Hawaii won their first ever road game vs a ranked team.

Turnovers can make a difference as Tulane had a 25-13 FD edge vs Army and a 486-334 yd edge but had a 4-0 TO deficit and also suffered a blk'd punt and a blk'd FG. The blk'd punt set up an Army TD to open then Tulane had a 3rd & 5 at the Army 6 but fmbl'd and it was ret'd 81 yds for a TD, a 14 pt swing and Army led 23-7 at the half despite Tulane having a 225-158 yd edge...

Virginia had been outscored 120-20 in their 3 previous game vs IA teams and as expected the Maryland/Virginia game was a blowout with the final being 31-0. The unexpected part comes from the fact that it was UVA with 427-302 yd and 26-13 FD edges and the shutout win at home. Marc Verica in his 3rd start hit 17 of 20 in the 1H for 178 yds.

Cal led comfortably vs Arizona St most of the game. They were up 17-0 early 2Q and 17-7 at the half with a 210-12 yd edge. It was 24-7 when Cal blk'd a 43 yd FG but a pers foul jumping over the line gave ASU a FD and they got a TD 3 plays later to pull within 10. With 2:42 left ASU took over at their 38 and got 2 FD's. They went for a 44 yd FG to cover with 1:02 left and it was wide left.

In San Diego St's last trip to TCU they had just 87 total yards and a 52-0 loss. While the score was more respectable at 41-7 this year, the results were pretty much the same. On Tuesday's we gave out a 4H from the Power Plays on TCU which called for a 37-7 win while holding SDSt to -42 yds rushing. The Aztecs had -13 yds rushing, 85 ttl yds and just 4 FD's. They did lose QB Lindley in the 2Q to inj but TCU was without starting QB Dalton and rushed for 383 yds and had a 498-85 yd edge in the win. SDSt's only score came after they ret'd a fmbl to the 1 and two plays later got a TD.

The Gators did it again with another frontdoor cover this past week. In the 1H Arkansas had a 238-180 yd edge vs Florida but the Gators led 14-0 as the Hogs were SOD at the UF36 and 21 and fmbl'd a punt setting up a 16 yd UF drive. It was 24-7 and the Hogs had the cover in hand when a 29 yd FG was blk'd with 7:24 left. Four plays later, UF got a 75 yd TD run by Rainey, 31-7 with 5:07 left. UF forced a punt and the Gators went 73/7pl with a 48 yd TD run by Demps with 1:04 left giving them the frontdoor cover...

UNLV led Colorado St 28-27 with a TD with 6:05 left. CSU needed a FG for a win and appeared to be on their way but on 2nd & 2 Gartrell Johnson took it 12 yds for a TD with :09 left. They added the 2 pt conversion for an apparent 7 pt win. UNLV ran the lateral play on the KO and it was fmbl'd and CSU ret'd it for a TD scoring 14 points in the final :09 for a misleading 41-28 win which they were trailing with :10 left...

Minnesota dominated the 1H vs Indy as with 2:30 left 1H UM had 9-0 FD and 151-20 yd edges but Indy got a 77 yd TD pass on 2nd & 9 and it was actually tied at 7 at the half. UM settled for 29 and 42 yd FG's in the 2H and only led 13-7 when they took over with 7:43 left. The Gophers went 60/14pl and got a 38 yd FG with :22 left on 4th & 5 for the frontdoor cover...

SMU had a 376-280 yd edge vs UCF. They had a 183-113 yd edge at the half but it was tied at 10. UCF got 2 key plays and 2 TD's in 3:00. On 3rd & 20 they got a 56 yd TD pass then after an int, got a TD and led 24-10 (5:32 3Q). SMU had closed to 24-17 and punted with 4:40 left. UCF went 45/6pl and on 3rd& 9 got a 15 yd TD pass for the frontdoor push with 1:34 left. SMU got to the UCF25 but was int'd at the 17.

Auburn failed to put Vanderbilt away after a dominating 1Q. VU had 1 FD which came on a penalty while AU drove 53/10, 50/9pl and 27/2pl. They got 2 TD's but were also SOD at the 1 yd line and could have led 21-0 but only led 13-0. VU pulled to 13-7 at the half and took the lead in the 3Q. The Commodores have not had a winning season since 1982 but opened up with their first 5-0 start since 1943 and improved to 3-0 in the SEC for the first time since 1950. VU also snapped a 13 game losing streak to Auburn...

Oklahoma St set a school record by topping 50 pts for a 4th straight game but they only had 401 yds offense as the def and ST contributed 3 scores with 6 and 22 yd IR TD's and a 78 yd PR TD all in the 1H keying a 28-7 lead. A&M actually outgained the Cowboys by 1 yard and Kendall Hunter who came in the #3 rusher in the NCAA was limited to 90 yds rushing...

Missouri had not won in Lincoln in over 30 years having lost 15 in a row SU by an avg margin of 26 ppg. They left no doubt about this one as they led 31-10 at the half and 52-10 after 3Q's. Bo Pelini had stated during the week that his team's goal was to shutout a Missouri offense that came in avg 54 ppg and 596 ypg. It was the Huskers worst loss since a 41-0 shutout vs Oklahoma in 1955...

Southern Miss is 0-2 for the first time in the 13 years of CUSA...

ULL's Tyrell Fenroy rushed for 297 yds which was his 3rd straight with at least 180 yds on the ground and broke a school record 297 yards rushing. He needs just 30 yds to become the SBC's all-time leading rusher. The team set a school record with 556 yds rushing and 728 yds offense which breaks the record they set earlier this year of 666 vs Kent St.

The rule of thumb for all coaches should be don't go for 2 points unless it's the 4Q of the game. Mike Riley of Oregon St violated that strategy and it cost him. Against Utah, OSU missed an early xp and trailed 20-9 but got a TD late 1H. They surprisingly went for 2, down 20-15 and it failed. In the 3Q they opened with a TD to lead 21-20 and once again surprisingly went for 2 and it failed. Later in the game when OSU got a TD with 2:18 left, their xp only made it 28-20 and had they would have clinched the win but Utah got a TD with 1:29 left, forced a punt :23 later and then got a 37 yd FG on the final play to pull it out.

As we have seen often this year, ranked teams struggle on weeknight games. S Carolina was upset by Vanderbilt in Wk 2, Kansas went down at USF on a Friday and Rutgers was upset by N Carolina on a Thursday. Colorado upset a ranked W Virginia and last week #10 USF got beaten at home by Pitt. Pitt actually had a 205-62 yd edge in the 1H and 11-3 FD edge. USF got a TD with 5:57 left to take the lead, 21-20 but Pitt amazingly gashed USF's top-notch (but injury weakened) D with a 3 play, 60 yd drive for a TD then Matt Grothe, who took numerous sacks on 3rd down was called for intentional grounding and a 14 yd loss with 3:28 left. The Bulls punted and didn't get the ball back until :22 left and their Hail Mary pass was not answered.

It was remarkable that Florida Atlantic did not trail a single second of their game vs Middle Tenn and lost despite dominating. FAU had a 202-81 yd edge in the 1H but fmbl'd at the 1 yd line on 2nd down and also after a 1st & gl at the 3, settled for a 25 yd FG and somehow only led 10-0 at the half. They had that same 10-0 lead (thanks mostly to TO's) when they gave up a 4th & 3, 25 yd TD pass with just 5:22 left. FAU went 52/9pl but settled for a 25 yd FG with 1:15 left and MT after a 27 yd pass on 4th & 8 got a Hail Mary TD with no time left on the clock and their xp gave them the stunning win in a game FAU dominated.

UAB QB Joe Webb was questionable coming in but rushed for 93 yds and passed for another 235. UAB had a 333-217 yd edge over Memphis but in a key play at the end, MEM had a 1st & gl at the 5 settling for a 25 yd FG with :02 left for the 3 pt win (push).
