Betting on the Nevada Wolf Pack

Nevada has never been a football powerhouse, but the team’s newfound success over the past several seasons led to Head Coach Jay Norvell leaving and accepting the head coaching position at Colorado State.

The Wolf Pack will be starting a new chapter with Ken Wilson at the helm, one of the school’s former assistants.

Nevada Wolf Pack History

Nevada joined the Big West Conference in 1992, when it started competing in the FBS. The most prominent figure in program history, Chris Ault, was serving as the team’s athletic director and head coach when it made the jump.

One year into FBS competition, Ault stepped down as coach to focus on his duties as the school’s AD and hired Jeff Horton to run the football program. After a 7-5 season, Horton accepted a job with in-state rival UNLV, much to the dismay of Wolf Pack fans.

Ault again took over as head coach for a couple more seasons before stepping down again in 1996.

After nearly a decade of mediocrity, Ault, still the AD, re-named himself the head coach once more but then stepped down as Athletic Director. In Ault’s final act, the Wolf Pack made eight straight bowl appearances and birthed the Pistol Offense.

Nevada fans officially turned the page on Ault after the 2012 season. Jay Norvell took over in 2017 and breathed some life into the Wolf Pack program. Now, the Wolf Pack is again turning the page after a successful run by a beloved coach.

Betting on the Wolf Pack in Nevada

Of course sports betting is legal in Nevada. Nevada walked so New Jersey, New York, and every other state could run. It’s essentially the birthplace of legal betting in the US.

It was the first state to begin accepting online wagers way back in 2010, and it was the only state with legal sportsbooks until 2018. The state’s most famous city, Las Vegas, is a gaming and sports betting hub littered with casinos and sportsbooks.

During popular sporting events, Vegas is typically packed with professional bettors, recreational bettors, and tourists who just want to see the hysteria for themselves.

There are, however, ways to bet outside of Las Vegas. Online sportsbooks like BetMGM and Caesars are legal and launched in the state.

Bettors looking to place a wager on the Wolf Pack can expect to find something like this:

-          Nevada Wolf Pack -5.5

-          Boise State +5.5

In this example, Nevada is favored over its rival, Boise State, by 5.5 points. Bettors pulling for the Wolf Pack are looking for at least a 6-point victory.

If Nevada wins by fewer than 6 points, or loses straight up, Boise State covers the spread, and Nevada bettors lose their wagers.
