At the Gate – Wednesday

Wednesday starts the week off at Belmont Park in fine fashion as we have a three day Pick 6 carryover of $326,010 to go after. The pool figures to go well over $1 million.

I had five of the six winners listed on Sunday, four of those either my first or second choice along with one third choice winning, but did not have 52-1 longshot Magical Tale, who started off the sequence.

It is very doubtful the Pick 6 will survive another day, and at least on paper it looks as if we might be able to hit it with a smallish ticket.

There are a couple of favorites that look tough including Myhartblongstodady (9-5) from the Chad Brown barn in the opening race of the sequence.

The Brad Cox trained Steam Engine (2-1) could make it two chalks in a row as the colt looks capable of better then he showed in his debut.

The feature on Wednesday is the eighth race, the $150,000 Joe A. Gimma for juvenile fillies going seven furlongs on the main track. Three of the seven exit the Seeking the Ante which was won by Party Like Grandma (3-1) who took the field gate to wire.

I liked the maiden win by Elegant Zip (5-2) at Saratoga in her second career start and she made it as my top pick.

I have five Live Longshots (see below) that are going during the Pick 6 but none of those are my top picks. If we can get one or two home first the Pick 6 could still pay off nicely.

Now is the perfect time to purchase my Monthly Package for just $99.95. It gives you a month of Belmont Park daily and my Best Plays Report each Saturday and Sunday.

Here is the opener from Belmont Park to get the day off to a good start:

BEL Race 1 Md $40,000 (1:30 ET)
#8 Youmakemeblush 12-1
#7 Spring Drama 2-1
#2 Super Mama 7-2
#10 Hit a Provisional 3-1

Analysis: Youmakemeblush tracked the early pace and could not go with the winner late in a runner up finish last out on the main track at Delaware Park in a race taken off the turf against maiden special weight foes. She drops back in for a tag here for the first time since her debut last September. She has run second in three starts in a row and now tries grass for the first time She is out of a Menifee mare that has dropped five winners and three have won on turf with a pair of stakes winners, top earner Derby Kitten ($469,696). Servis is a high % barn with terrible numbers going dirt to turf, just 1 for 58, but this gal should take to the surface and the 12-1 morning line looks fair enough.

Spring Drama was bumped coming out of the gate, stalked the early pace and weakened to finish fourth and drops in for a tag for the first time here. This gal has landed in the money in 4 of her 7 starts and missed by just a neck here three back. She is out of a Wekiva Springs mare that has dropped one other foal to race, no winners to date. She fits on the class drop here although her price may end up on the light side.

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Belmont Park:

BEL Race 8 The Joe A. Gimma (5:18 ET)
#4 Elegant Zip 5-2
#3 She's Trouble 5-1
#1 More Mischief 7-2
#5 Party Like Grandma 3-1

Analysis: Elegant Zip prompted the early pace after hitting the gate at the start and finished gamely to break her maiden in her second career start earning the top last out speed fig. She showed some promise with a solid runner up finish in her debut over a wet track for the Donk barn that usually does not have them fully cranked first out.

She's Trouble was the beaten favorite in the state bred Seek the Ante last out. The filly tracked the early pace and finished evenly over a racing strip that was playing to inside speed. She graduated two back by five lengths in her third career start in a sharp effort in the slop at the Spa. The Rice trainee ran okay over the main track here three back in a fourth-place finish in the state bred Lynbrook. She can turn the tables here and may end up getting overlooked on the tote.
