Premier League Matchday 2 Picks

This week's Matchday 2 Predictions will focus on five matches, three of them on Saturday listed with betting analysis below:

Fulham vs. Brentford

  • Date: Saturday, August 19
  • Time: 10:00 a.m. ET
  • Venue: Craven Cottage
  • Location: London, England

Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals (-105)

Fulham and Brentford might argue they had the best double header we saw in England’s top flight last season. Both meetings ended in 3-2 home wins and featured injury time goals.

Coincidentally, they played a friendly this summer which had the same score line, if not the late drama. Such matches were very common for Fulham at Craven Cottage last season – they ranked third in the Premier League for home games featuring over 2.5 goals, with it occurring in 14 of their 19 fixtures.

Such games were not as common for the Bees, but they drew 2-2 with Tottenham last weekend, so Ivan Toney’s suspension has not immediately harmed their attack. This could easily be the most entertaining match of the weekend.

Liverpool vs. Bournemouth

  • Date: Saturday, August 19
  • Time: 10:00 a.m. ET
  • Venue: Anfield
  • Location: Liverpool, England

Best Bet: Liverpool win to Nil (+125)

This fixture was one of the most eye-catching in the Premier League last season as the home side won 9-0 to equal the competition record for the biggest victory.

It should certainly be a lot closer this time around, with Bournemouth on its second manager since that Anfield drubbing ended Scott Parker’s time in charge. However, the Cherries remain light on goals which is an issue in one of the toughest away games England can offer.

Bournemouth lost to nil on the road against five of the top seven last season and only three teams in the division scored fewer away goals. With Liverpool’s forwards in good form, it should dominate the match and do enough to win. Just don’t expect another 9-0.

Tottenham vs. Manchester United

  • Date: Saturday, August 19
  • Time: 12:30 p.m. ET
  • Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
  • Location: London, England

Best Bet:  Both teams to score and Over 2.5 goals (-105)

Tottenham’s first home match in the post-Harry Kane era promises to be an entertaining one. Its games with Manchester United usually are.

Only one of the last six clashes saw fewer than three goals and both teams scored in four of them. The corresponding fixture last season saw the visitors throw away a 2-0 lead to only earn a point.

Kane assisted the equalizer that night, delivering the decisive moment in a Spurs game as he so often did. He may have gone but last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Brentford showed Tottenham is continuing in the vein of 2022/23, when its games saw more goals than any other team in the Premier League.
