At the Gate - Wednesday
We only have six days left of the Saratoga meeting, but there is still plenty of outstanding stakes action during the final week including eight graded stakes. The meeting comes to an end on Labor Day.
Coming up on Saturday we have the $500,000 Forego (G1) and $750,000 Woodward (G1).
The Woodward is lining up to be a good race featuring last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) champ Fort Larned. The Ian Wilkes trainee is looking to bounce back off a fifth place finish in the Whitney Handicap (G1) in his last outing.
It looks like the top six finishers from the Whitney will be back in the Woodward including the gate to wire winner Cross Traffic, Successful Dan, Mucho Macho Man, Ron the Greek and Alpha. Also expected to enter are Paynter, coming off a runner up finish in the San Diego (G2) at Del Mar, and Suburban Handicap (G2) winner Flat Out.
The Forego will include Fast Bullet, Golddigger’s Boy, Jackson Bend, Justin Phillip, Lea, Sage Valley, and Saratoga Snacks. Jake N Elwood and Strapping Groom are possible.
Wednesday’s feature is the $100,000 PG Johnson for two-year-old fillies on turf. A field of seven will go to the gate including a pair of Chad Brown trainees.  La Reine Bourbon gets the call coming off a good looking maiden win on Aug. 4.
Michael Dempsey’s Monthly Package is available for only $99.95. The package includes his full card reports for Saratoga and after Labor Day Belmont Park along with his weekend Best Plays Report.

Here is today’s opening race from Saratoga to get the day off to a good start:
SAR Race 1 Md Sp Wt (1:00 ET)
6 Bold Visionary   3-1
7 Souper Lucky   4-1
3 Commissioner   5-2
1 Flying Joe   12-1
Analysis: Bold Visionary put in a good effort tin his debut, coming with a  five wide rally to finish in the runner up spot behind a loose on the lead gate to wire winner over an inside speed favoring racing strip. The colt should move forward off that effort for the Maker barn that is 19% winners with second out maidens. The colt is out of the stakes winner Freshwater Pearl ($73,918) who has dropped five winners, top earner Pure Incentive (112,534).
Souper Lucky was third last out, beaten two lengths for the place spot by our top pick, unable to make up much ground in the stretch over the speed favoring racing surface. The colt did show improvement over his debut and another jump forward puts in the mix here. He has a solid pedigree, by Giant's Causeway out of the stakes winner Slewfoundmoney ($184,591).
WIN: #6 to win at 5-2 or better.
EX: 6,7 / 1,3,6,7
TRI: 6,7 / 1,3,6,7 / 1,3,4,6,7
Today's Featured Race of the Day from Saratoga:
SAR Race 8 The PG Johnson (4:47 ET)
6 La Reine Bourbon   3-1
1 Granny Mc's Kitten   5-2
4 Candy Kitty   7-2
5 La Mejor Fiesta   8-1
Analysis: La Reine Bourbon tracked the early pace and finished up well in the stretch, getting eased up late as the much the best winner to break her maiden in her debut. The $100,000 Ocala purchase is by Grade 1 turner Leroidesanimaux out of an Honor Grades mare that has dropped two other winners. She came back with a quick work on Aug. 23 and the Brown barn usually moves them forward with a race under their belt.
Granny Mc's Kitten is also sent out by Brown. The filly was off a beat slow in her debut, came with a four wide run and was beaten just a nose in a game effort. She figures to move forward with a race under her belt. She is a half to the talented turf stakes winner Kitten's Dumplings, who won the Lake George (G2) here on July 24 and was fourth in the Del Mar Oaks (G1) in her last outing.
WIN: #6 to win at 5-2 or better.
EX: 1,6 / 1,4,5,6
TRI: 1,6 / 1,4,5,6 / 1,4,5,6,7
