The Pick 6 pool on Thursday exceeded $1 million and the winning tickets paid $424,936.00. The consolation for five of six returned bettors $1,163.00.
My Pick 6 tickets crashed and burned early as I had probably my worst day of the Saratoga meeting. We will look to bounce back today with a good betting card that gets underway at 2:30pm eastern.
We have a couple of stakes on the card starting with today’s opener, which is the $100,000 Law Enforcement for New York bred juveniles that drew a field of six.
The feature is the $100,000 Riskaverse that drew nine three-year-old fillies that will go one mile on the grass.
We are down to the final four days of the Spa meeting, with closing day coming up on Monday. We will have a four day break and the Belmont Park Fall Championship meeting will get underway on Saturday, Sept. 7. In addition, opening day at Churchill Downs is coming up on Friday, Sept. 6.
Over the holiday weekend we still have seven graded stakes on tap. On Saturday we have the $750,000 Woodward (G1), $500,000 Forego (G1) and the $250,000 Bernard Baruch Handicap (G2). The three races will be televised live on the NBC Sports Network as pair of the two hour telecast of “Summer at Saratoga” that gets underway at 4:00pm eastern
On Sunday we have the $150,000 Saranac (G3) and the $300,000 Spinaway (G1), and on closing day on Labor Day the final two graded stakes of the meeting are the $150,000 Glen Falls (G3) and the $300,000 Hopeful (G1).
Here is today’s opening race from Saratoga to get the day off to a good start:
SAR Race 1 The Law Enforcement (2:30 ET)
6 Ogermeister 7-2
3 Double Gold 5-2
4 Sol the Freud 2-1
1 Free Magatu 4-1
Analysis: Ogermeister broke his maiden at Belmont Park back in may in a good looking effort which earned him a trip to Royal Ascot where he was a distant 15th. He came back in the Saratoga Special (G2) where he was not off cleanly and was not a threat in a sixth place finish. He is back with state breds here and put in a bullet drill out of the gate here on Aug. 23. he figures to bounce back with a better effort here and I doubt we are going to see the 7-2 morning line.
Double Gold prompted the early pace and finished gamely to break his maiden in his debut in a good looking effort. Five he beat in that race came back with a second the best finish. The gelding came back with a bullet drill for the Asmussen barn and this guy has a nice pedigree. He is out of the stakes winner Avie's Fancy ($402,909) who has dropped four winners including a pair of stakes winners, top earner St. Averil ($328,742).
WIN: #6 to win at 2-1 or better.

Today's Featured Race of the Day from Saratoga:
SAR Race 8 The Riskaverse (6:17 ET)
5 Promise Me More 8-1
7 Bella Castani 7-2
2 Unbelievable Dream 8-1
9 Sister George 3-1
Analysis: Promise Me More is returning off a five month break and making her first start on turf since a fourth in the Happy Ticket last September. The filly broke her maiden in her previous start in the Donnie Wilhite Memorial Stakes at Louisiana Downs. Her best effort came two back on dirt where she made a good late rally to finish in the runner up spot in the Rachel Alexandra (G3) back in February. She has decent looking works on the morning tab for the Steve Asmussen barn that is 22% winners with runners coming back off a 61-180 day layoff. She is the first foal to race out of the turf stakes winner Aly's Vow ($169,598). The filly is going to get a solid pace to run at and likely gets overlooked on the tote.
Bella Castani was the beaten favorite last out in the Diamondrella at Belmont Park going seven furlongs. The filly came with a four wide run but could not get to the winner Effie Trinket in deep stretch. The winner came back to run second in the restricted Auntie Mame in her next start here on Aug. 10. She is a stakes winner on turf, taking the Tweedside back in April. The stretch out should suit and the Christophe Clement barn is 24% winners moving runners from sprint to route.
Unbelievable Dream is coming off a sixth place finish in the restricted Auntie Mame last out. The filly was on hold going into the first turn to avoid running up on the heels of a foe, made a mild late rally in the stretch and was 3 3/4 lengths behind the winner. Two back she ran fourth behind Discreet Marq in the state bred Eventail, with the winner coming back to win the Del Mar Oaks (G1) in her next start. The Barclay Tagg trainee has a stakes win, taking the Appalachian (G3) at the Keeneland spring meeting.
WIN: #5 to win at 9-2 or better.
EX: 5,7 / 2,5,7,9
TRI: 5,7 / 2,5,7,9 / 1,2,5,7,9
