Entries will be drawn today for Belmont Park's “Super Saturday” card, with six Breeders' Cup Challenge “Win and You're In” races on tap.
The marquee race on the card is the $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1), with the winner earning an automatic starting spot and all-expenses paid trip to Santa Anita Park for the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1).
The Bill Mott trained Flat Out will be going for his third consecutive win in the Jockey Club Gold Cup and is coming into the race off a solid runner up finish in the Woodward (G1) at Saratoga last month. He was beaten just a head by the gate to wire winner Alpha.
He won't have things easy, as both Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Orb and Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Palace Malice are expected to enter.
Orb came up ¾ of a length short in the Travers in a third place finish behind the winner Will Take Charge, who came back to win the Pennsylvania Derby (G2) at Parx Racing in his next outing.
Palace Malice was a nose behind Orb in the Travers, snapping a two-race winning streak after the Todd Pletcher trainee won the Jim Dandy (G2) and Belmont Stakes.
Others expected to enter on Wednesday include Alpha, Last Gunfighter, Vitoria Olimpica, Cross Traffic and Ron the Greek.
It is going to be a busy week, as I also have five Breeders' Cup Challenge races from Santa Anita Park to handicap and they will be included in my Best Plays Report for Saturday, and Churchill Downs has another “Downs After Dark” program coming up Saturday evening.
Saturday will be the most important day of the year for Breeders' Cup hopefuls, and it looks as if we are going to see quite a few competitive races to wager on this weekend.
Here is today’s opening race from Belmont Park to get the day off to a good start:
BEL Race 1 OClm $35,000N1X (1:05 ET) 3 Wave Theory 2-1 7 Lady of Gold 7-2 6 Industrial Policy 6-1 5 Lisvernane 6-1
Analysis: Wave Theory is going to be really tough here as the filly drops out of stakes company for the Chad Brown barn. Last out this gal made a mild late bid to finish fourth in the restricted My Princess Jess, beaten two lengths for the top spot. Two back she was a game second in the Sands Point (G2) here behind repeat winner Discreet Marq, who won the Del Mar Oaks (G1) in her next outing. She comes back here off a two month break and this is the easiest spot she has seen since she broke her maiden on the turf at the Big A last fall.
Lady of Gold finished ahead of our top pick in the My Princess Jess and then was the beaten favorite last out when she checked in fifth at this level at the Spa trying to get nine furlongs. Her first trip over the turf here came three back where she was only beaten a head versus Alw-2L foes in her first go against winners. Her last three speed figs are a good fit here and if our top pick gets bet down this gal may be worth a small look.
WIN: #3 to win at 8-5 or better.
EX: 3,7 / 3,5,6,7
TRI: 3,7 / 3,5,6,7 / 3,5,6,7,10
Today's Featured Race of the Day from Belmont Park:
BEL Race 8 Clm $16,000B (4:45 ET) 4 Cash Your Ticket 5-1 3 Force Multiplier 6-1 6 Cashleigh 5-1 7 Mike and Rob 6-1
Analysis: Cash Your Ticket made a good late rally to finish in the runner up spot last out at this level in a good effort, beaten just 3/4 of a length for the top spot. It was the gelding's best effort in seven trips on turf and his first go since the former Jamie Ness assistant Laura Perillo took over calling the shots. The barn is overdue some luck here after going 0 for 9 with four seconds to date.
Force Multiplier stretches out to a route after making a mild late rally to finish fourth last out against $20,000 non-winners of two or three-year-olds in his first go against winners. He broke his maiden two back thanks to a DQ for a $25,000 tag and was claimed out of that race by the Jacobson barn. He has plenty of pedigree to handle the extra ground, by Johannesburg out of a Vindication mare. The barn is 21% winners moving runners from sprint to route.
WIN: #4 to win at 7-2 or better.
EX: 3,4 / 3,4,6,7
TRI: 3,4 / 3,4,6,7 / 3,4,6,7,10
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

R4: #4 Share 'n Stone 10-1
R5: #2 Speedy's Gal 8-1
