At the Gate - Friday
Thursday got off to a chalky start, as we knocked down the first four exactas on the card, but the payoffs were puny: $6.70, $10.40, $7.40, and $14.00.
Guyana Star paid $8.50 in the fifth race, the highest price of the Pick 5, which returned just $144.00 for a $1.
Our biggest hit of the day came in the seventh race with my top pick Voodoo Tales getting the job done, returning $17.80. We had the recommended exacta which returned $201.00 and the $1 trifecta that paid $367.00.
The longshot got my late Pick 3 off to a good start and when my second choice The Magic Stone ($6.30) won the eighth race, I was alive to the two logical contenders in the finale, Insighting and Nail It. My top pick and fourth choice in the final race were scratched.
I checked the probable payouts and saw $143.00 Insighting and $113.50 with my second choice Nail It. It would be a good end of the day if I was able to get one of them home.
Well, Nail It was able to take the field gate to wire and returned $6.20 for the win. About ten minutes went by and my online bankroll did not increase by the $113.50.
It turns out I mispunched my ticket, and instead of using the #1 and #4 in the finale I had punched #2 and #4.  Not only did I mispunch my ticket, I did not even realize it until ten minutes after the race had been run.
I am heading to Lencrafters this morning.

Here is today’s opening from Aqueduct to get the day off to a good start:
AQU Race 1 Clm $12,500 (12:25 ET)
5 Osceola Prince   5-1
2 Star of Sarava   7-5
4 Powhatan County   8-1
8 Smokin Candy   7-2
Analysis: Osceola Prince tracked the early pace and then gave way to finish a well-beaten ninth last out for a $20,000 tag. He drops into a slightly softer spot here tagged for $12,500 and the Servis barn looks back on track after getting off to a slow start at the meeting. His last win came three back on the main track at Monmouth Park against $20,000 non-winners of a race in six months.
Star of Sarava is coming off a sharp win at Penn in the fog against $10,000 claimers where he drew away to win by seven lengths. He catches a slightly tougher group here but will be tough if he runs close to his last effort. Main knock is going to be the light price.
WIN: #5 to win at 7-2 or better.
EX: 2,5 / 2,4,5,8
TRI: 2,5 / 2,4,5,8 / 2,4,5,6,8
Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Aqueduct:
AQU Race 7 OClm $25,000N2X (3:19 ET)
1 Hay Shares   3-1
4 Crafty Dreamer   9-2
2 Iron Power   4-1
5 Street Lord   6-1
Analysis: Hay Shares stalked the early pace while saving ground and did not threaten in the stretch last out in a seventh place finish against Alw-1 optional claimers in his first start off nearly a six month layoff. The gelding adds blinkers and returns to the state bred ranks here for the Rice barn that has been sending out live runners at the meeting. The gelding owns back speed figs that fit and he returns to the state bred ranks here.
Crafty Dreamer broke outward coming out of the gate, stalked the early pace and made a mild late run to finish third last out at this level in his first trip on the inner track. He finished in a deadheat for third and only missed the runner up spot by a nose. He ran well three back going a one-turn mile on the main track and looks capable of handling two turns for the first time. Would have liked to see a jock switch as Arroyo has been chilly at the meeting, but this guy should be a decent enough price.
WIN: #1 to win at 5-2 or better.
EX: 1,4 / 1,2,4,5
TRI: 1,4 / 1,2,4,5 / 1,2,4,5,9
Live Longshots:
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.
R1: #4 Powhatan County   8-1
R4: #7 Tropical Trouble   8-1
R5: #8 Bama Bound   12-1
R8: #2 Exclusive Warrior   8-1
R9: #6 Glassy Aly   10-1
Good luck today!
