NBA Playoffs Expert Free Picks for Tuesday, May 7
Our VI basketball betting experts have compiled their NBA picks for Tuesday, May 7 and they're focusing on the matchups below:
- Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Boston Celtics (7:00 p.m. ET)
- Dallas Mavericks vs. Oklahoma City Thunder (9:30 p.m. ET)
Cavaliers vs Celtics Free Picks
Round 2 Game 1 favorites of 10 or more points are not common but those teams have fared well, including an 11-2 S/U and 9-4 ATS run since 1998. One of those losses came a year ago, however, as Boston lost to Philadelphia in Game 1 of the second round. Boston did enter that series off a tougher than expected series with Atlanta while the 76ers were coming off a first round sweep.
The situation is more favorable for Boston this season, taking care of Miami in five games while Cleveland needed seven games to advance after winning on Sunday hosting Orlando. Teams that win the first round series in Seven games are just 12-16-2 ATS in Game 1 of the second round historically.
Boston won two of three vs. Cleveland in the regular season, with the Cavaliers winning the most recent meeting in March 105-104. Boston was an 8.5-point road favorite in that game as if anything this line is a slight discount despite being a high number by playoff standards.
Boston is moving forward without Kristaps Porzingis, but Cleveland is likely to still be without Jarrett Allen to take both starting centers off the court. Cleveland lost all three of its road games to Orlando by a combined deficit of 68 points and the Cavaliers are 1-10 S/U in the past 11 road games, last defeating a winning team on the road on March 18, while currently 19-25 ATS on the road for the season.
There is concern with Joe Mazzulla's decision making as the competition heats up further in the playoffs, but Game 1 should provide a clear advantage for the Celtics Tuesday.
Mavericks vs Thunder Free Picks
We're on the Over as Dallas and Oklahoma City clash in Game 1 of the 2nd round.
These two teams played to some very high scoring games during the regular season and both are in nice rhythm entering this matchup. The lowest total during the regular season was 221 and the other matchups were much higher scoring.
The other 3 head to head battles saw these two teams combine for at least 245 points as they played to many track meets.
That'll be the case here once again as both teams are going to try and gain the upper hand in Game 1.
These two teams dominated the opening round and pace of play is going to be the difference maker. With the scorers both sides have, this is the kind of game that'll turn into a back and forth contest.
Expect plenty of transition looks and for a lot of quick shots. That benefits this Over as we'll see plenty of tempo both ways in another high scoring game.
