Recap: Alabama , Providence
Date: December 11, 2010 2:00 PM EDT

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Marshon Brooks matched his career-high with 33 points and brought down eight rebounds as Providence defeated Alabama 82-70 on Saturday.

Brooks has scored at least 25 points in six straight games for the Friars (10-2).

Gerard Coleman, last week's Big East Rookie of the Week, put up a career-high 18 points for Providence and Vincent Council contributed eight points and seven assists. Council is leading the Big East with 7.0 assists per game.

The game was a back-and-forth contest, and after the first half the score was tied at 40. However, the Friars put together a 19-3 run in the second half, grabbing a 78-64 lead that put the game out of Alabama's reach.

Coleman and Duke Mondy punctuated the run with consecutive 3-point baskets that brought the Dunkin' Donuts Center fans to their feet.

The Friars' ability to get to the free-throw line was a decisive factor in this matchup, as they made it to the line 31 times to the Crimson Tide's 15.

Alabama made 80.0 percent of its attempts, but the Friars still ended up with nine more points from the line than the Crimson Tide, in large part due to Brooks's 13-for-16 total.

Some of Alabama's key players, including starters Senario Hillman and Chris Hines, had to deal with foul trouble throughout the second half as a result of Providence's penetrating guards.

Hillman fouled out of the game with five minutes left, forcing some of his less-experienced teammates to step up during the game's final minutes.

Tony Mitchell led the way for the Crimson Tide with 20 points, including a few powerful alley-oop finishes, and Trevor Releford contributed 12 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Forward JaMychal Green added 15 points and 11 rebounds in his first game back after a three-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.
