SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Nick Hendra scored a career-high 22 points to help American reach the championship game of the Cable Car Classic with a 73-57 victory over Fordham on Wednesday night.
Stephen Lumpkins added 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles (8-5), who had lost five of their previous seven. Vlad Moldoveanu scored 16 points.
Brenton Butler scored 14 points for the Rams (6-5), who snapped a four-game winning streak. Chris Gaston added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Fordham, which had Monday's game canceled at Georgia Tech due to the East Coast blizzard, bussed to Pittsburgh for flights to San Francisco.
American led by as many as 16 points in the first half before settling for a 36-29 edge at intermission.
The Eagles meet Delaware, which beat Santa Clara 54-53, in Thursday's championship game. The Rams play the host Broncos in the consolation contest.
