Betting on the Ohio State Buckeyes

As one of the biggest brands in college sports, the Ohio State Buckeyes attract both fans and sports bettors alike.

Before 1970, the Buckeyes racked up most of their impressive stats like Final Fours and their lone national championship (1960).

Since then, Ohio State has experienced ebbs and flows in their success. The beginning and end of the 1990s were great for the Buckeyes.

They earned back-to-back 1-seeds in ’91 and ’92 led by Jim Jackson and Chris Jent. Unfortunately, they couldn’t make it past the Elite 8.

Then came a Final Four appearance as a 4-seed in ’99 behind sharpshooter Michael Redd.

The Thad Matta era, from the mid-2000s to the mid-2010s, was Ohio State’s best run in recent memory, when the Buckeyes routinely entered March Madness as a title contender.

First, superstar big man Greg Oden and point guard Mike Conley took the Buckeyes to the national title game, where they lost to a Florida team who won its second straight title.

The next run of success for Ohio State came a few years later. Do-it-all star Evan Turner helped OSU earn a 2-seed and Elite 8 appearance.

Then, Jared Sullinger, Deshaun Thomas, and Aaron Craft led the team to another Final Four in 2012. Ohio State, however, is still searching for its first title since 1960.

A common wager typically placed on a basketball game is the spread. Lets take a look at example of a game between the Buckeyes and their biggest rival, Michigan.

  • Ohio State -1
  • Michigan +1

In this example, Ohio State is favored over the Wolverines by just one point. That means, if you’re backing Ohio State on the spread, you need the Buckeyes to win by more than 1.

If they win by 2 or more, they cover the spread and you win your bet. If they lose the game, you lose your bet.If Ohio State beats Michigan by exactly 1, the bet settles as a push, and you get your money back but do not collect a profit.
