The South Carolina Gamecocks could be the one team that might challenge the Georgia Bulldogs in 2018 in the SEC East. The Gamecocks are beginning their third season under head coach Will Muschamp who has led South Carolina to improvement in each of his first two years. The Gamecocks improved from 3-9 to 6-7 two years ago and last year they went 9-4.

Oddsmakers don’t believe there will be any improvement this season, as the win total for South Carolina for the 2018 regular season is only seven.

Let’s look at the Gamecocks and their schedule for this season.

SEC Win Totals

South Carolina 2018 regular season win total
Over 7 (-115)
Under 7 (-115)

The Gamecocks need Jake Bentley to play well if they are to have any chance of going over this total. Bentley threw 18 touchdown passes last season but he also threw 12 interceptions. He should be better this season, as the Gamecocks brought in Dan Werner to coach the quarterbacks. Bentley will also be getting Deebo Samuel back from injury.  Samuel is a game breaker who has averaged 13.9 yards per catch and 7.5 yards per carry. The problem for Samuel is health, as he has yet to play more than 10 games in a season.

The good news for South Carolina is that their schedule is pretty favorable. Getting to seven wins looks very possible and matching last year’s nine wins is not out of the question.

2018 South Carolina Gamecocks Schedule Analysis

Sept. 1 Coastal Carolina
The season opener should be a cakewalk for South Carolina.  The Gamecocks are listed as a 30-point favorite in their opener. The Gamecocks have won both of their previous season openers under Muschamp and they will win this one.

Sept. 8 Georgia
The game of the year in the SEC East takes place early in the season as Georgia visits South Carolina. The Bulldogs are ranked in the top five in the country and they have beaten South Carolina in each of the last two seasons.

Sept. 15 Marshall
The Gamecocks should be able to bounce back after an expected loss to Georgia, but it may not be easy, as a letdown is definitely possible.

Sept. 22 at Vanderbilt
The first road game of the season for the Gamecocks is at Vandy and South Carolina should get the road win.

Sept. 29 at Kentucky
The Gamecocks won’t have it easy in this one against a Kentucky team that looks to be improved.  This is one of those key games that will decide whether or not South Carolina goes over their win total.

Oct. 6 Missouri
The Tigers can score, but their defense isn’t very good and Missouri usually struggles on the road. This should be a home win for South Carolina.

Oct. 13 Texas A&M
This will be a tough game for South Carolina against a Texas A&M team that should be improved under Jimbo Fisher.

Oct. 20 Bye

Oct. 27 Tennessee
The Gamecocks get a week off to prepare for the Volunteers and they get them at home. This should be a South Carolina win.

Nov. 3 at Ole Miss
The Gamecocks may need to win this game to assure they go to a bowl game this season and it is a winnable game.

Nov. 10 at Florida
Winning at Florida is never easy, but the Gamecocks might be good enough to challenge the Gators on the road.

Nov. 17 UT-Chattanooga
This should be an easy home win for the Gamecocks before a likely loss in their regular season finale.

Nov. 24 at Clemson
It is hard to see any chance for the Gamecocks winning this game on the road.

2018 South Carolina Gamecocks Season Win Total Prediction

The win total for South Carolina may be too low at just seven games. The Gamecocks have at least five games that look like solid wins and two games that look like sure losses. The other five games will decide the season for South Carolina and if they go 3-2 in those games they will win eight games and go over their win total of seven. Even if they go 2-3 in those games the still win seven games and that is a push.

Betting over the total of seven should be the way to go with South Carolina in 2018.
