The Weekly Waggle - PGA Recap

Editor’s Note: Be sure to check back weekly for Dan Daly's spontaneous and entertaining comments on the Tour and follow him on Twitter @weeklywaggle.

Jim Nantz said during coverage Friday that Rory didn't like playing in the wind. When he said that, my obvious reaction was that he just misspoke; so I looked it up. Turns out Rory was asked last year during the British Open if he's ever done well in the wind, he said, "No, not really. All the amateur tournaments I've won, they were played on links courses but they were all relatively calm. So I just play better and my game is more suited to calm conditions."

Ummm, are you kidding me?! That's like Tom Brady saying he doesn't like playing in cold weather during the playoffs? The good news for Rory? On the windiest course in America he got calm conditions three out of four rounds; and put on an absolute golf clinic over the weekend as a result.

With that said, everyone needs to take a breath with the Tiger/Jack comparisons. The guy is clearly a talent and will continue to win golf tournaments and even majors, but he won't come close to catching Tiger or Jack. Case and point…his comment above. Zero percent chance you would ever hear one of the all-time greats in golf say something like that.

The best news of the weekend for Rory? He is officially Bo Van Pelt relevant again. Speaking of, our man BVP once again had another solid performance and looks like he picked himself up a new sponsor recently, Embassy Suites Hotels. Brilliant move by Embassy Suites in my opinion…their message is pretty clear, "We may not win all the awards but we are dedicated to consistency." Message received loud and clear.

This was my pick to win the PGA. Of course I picked him before I saw this picture over the weekend. Say Cheese!

As for my other pick?

Well, to recap Tiger's Saturday…First he's paired with his lease favorite person on Tour (Vijay Singh), and then they announce the walking pro with his group is Ron Hickman of Timberton Golf Course in Hattiesburg, MS. Now, that might not mean much to you but Timberton Golf Course is exactly two miles from Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services in Hattiesburg, Miss. That's the sex rehab clinic Tiger attended and thus the course Tiger played while he was there. If you don't think that was a distraction you're kidding yourself. That leads to basically a 4-over thru 8 holes start on Saturday, which took him out of contention. And if all of that wasn't bad enough…during the rain delay CBS decided to air the 2009 PGA Championship where Tiger lost to YE Yang which was been aired throughout the clubhouse. It just wasn't going to end well.

I think we can agree that this was yet another solid tournament for one John Patrick Daly. A top 20 at a major on the heels of a top five last week?! Don't look now, but JD is just outside the FEDEX Cup top 125. A few more good finishes the next two weeks and that means more golf this year and beyond for JD, and I think it's safe to say we all win in that scenario.

My feelings towards Mickelson are no secret, but his 73 on Thursday might be the most amazing 73 ever shot in the history of golf. If anyone else hit it where FIGJAM played from Thursday they couldn't have broken 80. A legit scratch golfer wouldn't have broken 100.

And on Friday, a legit scratch golfer might not have broken 100 period. When good Tour pros are saying it was the hardest round of golf they've ever played that's saying a lot. Vijay's 69 might have been the best round on Tour in years. Ten players hit #13 green in regulation on Friday out of 152. TEN! That is just silly. Personally I wish we had that all four days.

The commentary from the CBS crew alone is almost as entertaining as the golf and in some cases even more so. In a two-minute span they used the phrases "Heal Skank" and "Run like a toddlers nose."

That's just good television!

I'm not sure which is more ridiculous, the fact that Martin Kaymer has won a major championship and was actually ranked No. 1 in the world or that Luke Donald hasn't even seriously contended in a major and has been ranked first in the world for over 52 total weeks.

Keegan Bradley is 6'2"…his pants are made for someone 5'10". I tell you this because I've never noticed it before Friday, but it's impossible for me not to notice now and it really annoys me so I want you to be annoyed too going forward.

Someone needs to explain the Rickie Fowler obsession to me…I simply don't get it. I have nothing against the guy; I just don't understand the obsession with the over-the-top outfits and inconsistent golf. Quite frankly if he is a captain's pick for the Ryder Cup then DL III needs to be fired. Especially if it's over BVP, who not only brings a consistent golf game but a discount at the Embassy Suites for the team.

Be smart about this Davis, the Embassy Suites has a free breakfast and free happy hour!

Until Next Week,
Dan Daly
