Recap: Ducks , Red Wings
Date: November 05, 2011 7:00 PM EDT

DETROIT (AP) - Mike Babcock should be well-rested after the Red Wings gave their coach a much-needed win.

Nicklas Lidstrom had two goals and an assist, Jimmy Howard made 22 saves for his seventh NHL shutout, and Detroit snapped a six-game losing streak by beating the Anaheim Ducks 5-0 on Saturday night.

``It'll be nice to have a night of sleep,' Babcock said.

The Red Wings also broke out of a scoring slump after they netted only six goals during their slide.

``After maybe the second goal it felt like everyone was more relaxed,' said Johan Franzen, who had a goal and two assists.

Niklas Kronwall and Henrik Zetterberg also scored for the Detroit and Ian White had two assists.

``It gives the whole team that relief that we finally won a game and we scored some goals, too,' Lidstrom said. ``We got rewarded by going to the net and getting some goals that way. It's something that we have to build on. It's only one game, but it was a big game for us.'

Jonas Hiller stopped 39 shots for Anaheim before being replaced by Dan Ellis, who made six saves.

``By far, our worst game of the year,' Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle said.

It was the Ducks' final game of a seven-game, 13-day road trip on which they went 1-3-3.

Kronwall opened the scoring 7:04 in when he beat Hiller with a slap shot from the right point for his second goal. It came just 6 seconds after Anaheim killed a penalty. The Red Wings outshot the Ducks 17-1 in the first 13:30 of the game.

``We put so many shots on the net, guys were going there for the second chances,' Franzen said. ``We're going to get goals if we keep doing that. Continue this, and good things will happen.'

Zetterberg made it 2-0 at 1:55 of the second period when he scored his third of the season on a wrist shot from the high slot after controlling Franzen's pass with his skate. Lidstrom's first goal of the game came 50 seconds later off a slap shot from the top of the left circle.

An apparent goal by Anaheim's Lucas Sbisa with 7:44 remaining in the second was waved off because of incidental contact with Howard by Corey Perry.

``I was there and I was set. He just came in and ran into me,' Howard said. ``We've seen that happen to us quite a few times already, so it was nice (to get the call).'

Perry didn't see it that way.

``I thought I was outside the crease. I looked down and didn't see anything,' he said. ``I thought he came out and hit me and fell backwards.'

Lidstrom's second of the game came on the power play 1:39 into the third period on a slap shot from inside the blue line. It was his fifth goal of the season.

Franzen scored with 9:23 left.

NOTES: Detroit RW Todd Bertuzzi didn't play because of illness. RW Patrick Eaves missed his second game because of a sore back. Detroit recalled F Fabian Brunnstrom from Grand Rapids of the AHL, and he had an assist on Lidstrom's first goal. ... Lidstrom scored his 130th power-play goal, moving him ahead of Phil Housley into fifth place among NHL defensemen. Anaheim defenseman Cam Fowler, who was born in nearby Windsor, Ontario and grew up in the Detroit suburb of Farmington, was minus-4 in 27:50 of ice time.
