NHL Betting Odds & Preview for Wednesday – Coyotes at Canucks

The Arizona Coyotes (32-27-8) square off against the Vancouver Canucks (34-25-6) in a Pacific Division battle with big playoff implications in the Western Conference. The Coyotes are currently two points out of a playoff spot, while the Canucks and Winnipeg Jets are tied with 74 points for the final two spots in the Western Conference playoff picture. A win or a loss can dramatically shift the race just in one night.

There are some outlets projecting the Canucks to start Jacob Markstrom (knee), but that still seems rather unlikely. The traded for veteran backup G Louis Domingue to serve as backup to G Thatcher Demko, who is likely to be the guy in the crease on Hump Day.

Coyotes at Canucks Betting Odds Overview

This is just the second meeting this season between the two teams. The Canucks beat the Coyotes 3-1 in Vancouver on Jan. 16 behind Markstrom. Arizona has had a little trouble in Vancouver over the years, going 11-24-1 in the past 36 trips to the Pacific Northwest. However, the 'Yotes are 4-1 across the past five meetings. The 'under' is a very impressive 6-2-2 in the past 10 meetings in B.C., while going 33-15-4 in the past 52 meetings overall.

Coyotes Current Form

Arizona started out the season on fire, and were even in first place in the Pacific Division for a while. They've fallen on hard times, particularly on the road, going 1-10 in the past 11 games away from home. They're also 1-7 in the past eight against the Western Conference, 1-8 in the past nine as a road underdog and 7-15 in the past 22 games overall.

Canucks Current Form

On the flip side, the Canucks have been trending in the right direction, winning 12 of the past 15 games at home, while going 7-2 in the past nine inside the Pacific Division. They're also 8-3 in the past 11 as a home favorite.

Coyotes to Watch

The Coyotes have been getting plenty of offense from C Clayton Keller, as he has four goals and six points with a plus-4 rating and 10 shots on goal (SOG) across the past three outings. D Jordan Oesterle has added a goal and an assist with a plus-1 rating in his past two outings, too, while C Brad Richardson has surprised with two goals, including a shorthanded goal, a game-winning tally and eight shots on goal across the past three. D Oliver Ekman-Larsson has also been a sparkplug on offense, going for a goal, three points and a shorty with a plus-4 raitng with nine SOG in his past three.

There are plenty of ice-cold 'Yotes, too, though. RW Phil Kessel is scuffling with just one goal and a plus-1 rating with nine SOG across the past five outings. Meanwhile, LW Christian Dvorak is scoreless across his past four with only two shots on goal and a plus-1 rating.

Canucks to Watch

The Canucks made a big splash bringing in F J.T. Miller last offseason, and he is paying big dividends. He has racked up four goals, including a power-play goal, including seven assists with 21 SOG in the past six outings. Super sophomore C Elias Pettersson has managed a goal, three points and four SOG over his past two. D Alexander Edler has rebounded after a slow start, posting a goal, five assists and a plus-6 rating with 10 SOG across the past five. C Bo Horvat has also gone for three goals, six points and 14 SOG with three power-play goals during the impressive span.

Like the Coyotes, Vancouver certainly has some guys not hitting on all cylinders. LW Tanner Pearson has slowed down, posting just two goals, a minus-1 rating and 16 SOG across his past eight outings. D Troy Stecher has stumbled with just one helper in the past four, while RWs Adam Gaudette and Jake Virtanen are each scoreless over the past three.

The Canucks have three players who are uncertain to play Wednesday, too. All-Star D Quinn Hughes, D Tyler Myers and C Jay Beagle are each uncertain to play due to undisclosed ailments. The team has recalled D Guillaume Brisebois and Jalen Chatfield from the AHL on an emergency basis.

Coyotes at Canucks Selection Summary

The Coyotes have struggled mightily, but the Canucks have some uncertainty in their crease, as well as a few injuries at key positions, particularly among the defenseman corps. And yes, the Canucks won the first meeting, but the Coyotes have won four of the past five in this series. It's a nice spot for the Coyotes to surprise and pick up a road win, which is much needed since they're 1-10 across their past 11 games on the road.
