Luhr, Graf win Baltimore, take ALMS title

BALTIMORE (AP) - Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf won the Grand Prix of Baltimore on Saturday to wrap up their second straight American Le Mans Series season title with three races left.

Luhr took the lead with 13 minutes left and held on for the duo's fifth consecutive P1 victory in the No. 6 Muscle Milk HPD ARX-03c prototype.

It was the shortest race in ALMS history - 1 hour, 14 minutes of running time - because of a lengthy red flag following a multicar incident at the start of the event on downtown street circuit.

Luhr beat Guy Smith to the checkered flag by 3.867 seconds. Smith led briefly in the No. 16 Lola B12/60 started by Chris Dyson, before Luhr regained the top spot in the hairpin on the 31st lap.

Marino Franchitti took his fourth P2 victory of the season, teaming for the first time with Guy Cosmo. The victory gave Franchitti the P2 championship points lead.

Jan Magnussen made a third-to-first move to take the GT lead shortly after the final restart, and held off teammate Tommy Milner by 0.457 seconds in a 1-2 finish for Corvette Racing. Tristan Nunez also went from third to first in the closing minutes to win in the PC class, while Dion von Moltke won in GTC.

The early accident actually occurred before cars had even crossed the starting line. It eliminated five cars and brought out an immediate red flag. Scott Tucker, starting third in the No. 551 Level 5 P2 entry, brushed the tires in the chicane entering the front straight and was hit from behind by Anthony Lazzaro's P2, starting a chain reaction that clogged the circuit.
