Brad Penny's horse wins at Del Mar

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) -Synnin and Grinnin, owned by Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Brad Penny, beat Unusual Spirit by 1 1/4 lengths to win Monday's $59,000 feature race at Del Mar.

Synnin and Grinnin, ridden by Joe Talamo and carrying 122 pounds, covered five furlongs on turf in 56.03 seconds and, as the 5-2 favorite in a field of eight, paid $4, $4 and $3.

The win in the allowance optional claiming race for fillies and mares was the third in eight lifetime starts for Synnin and Grinnin, a California-bred 4-year-old daughter of Beau Genius.

Unusual Spirit returned $4 and $3.20. Dine At Nine finished third and paid $6 to show.
