At the Gate - Sunday

I dusted off the Aqueduct bankroll after a 12 day hiatus and we got right back in the saddle, coming up with three winners on top on the nine race card, producing a +69% +ROI for the day with my top picks.

The top winner on the day was We Get It, who scored at $19.40 as my top pick in the fifth race.

We knocked down the recommended exacta for $117.00 and trifecta for $585.00.

The trifecta will take care of a good bit of my Christmas shopping bill this year, but with the wife’s birthday falling on Dec. 28, I get hit with a daily double, and I plan on coming up with a windfall on Sunday at the Big A to cover the birthday festivities.

We have a good betting card on tap at the Big A on Sunday, which features the $65,000 Alex Robb Handicap for New York breds.

Wishful Tomcat has won eight in a row when racing in New York, but will be making his first start since June for trainer Richard Dutrow.

At the 2/5 morning line odds, I am going to take a small stab we can beat him with Dr. D.F.C.

Here is today's opening race from Aqueduct to get our day off to a good start:

AQU Race 1 Clm $10,000 (12:30 ET)

#3 Ruff and Ready   5/1

#5 Quip   5/2

#2 Diamond District / #2b Indian War Dance   3/1

#7 Tsavorite   12/1

Analysis: #3 Ruff and Ready was the beaten chalk last out against $7.5K foes in his first trip on the inner. The seven year old was caught out wide and made a mild late run to finish fourth over a inner surface that was playing to horses on or near the lead that day. He was claimed out of the race by the Galluscio barn that is 15% winners first off the claim. This guy has some back class, a stakes winner and three-time earner of a triple digit Beyer in his career. Picks up a break in the weights here picking up the capable bug Serpa.

#5 Quip dueled for the early lead and battle don gamely, unable to hold off the winner late in a runner up finish against $16K claimers at the Big M. The five year old was claimed out of the race by the Brown barn that is 24% winners (with a +ROI) first off the claim.  The five year old has landed in the exacta in all three trips on the inner.

Wagering

WIN: #3 to win at 3/1 or better.

EX: 3,5 / 2,3,5,7

TRI: 3,5 / 2,3,5,7 / 2,3,5,6,7

Today's Featured Race of the Day from Aqueduct:

AQU Race 8 Alex M. Robb Hcp (3:44 ET)

#4 Dr. D.F.C.   8/1

#1 Wishful Tomcat   2/5

#5 Naughty New Yorker   10/1

#3 Be Bullish   6/1

Analysis: #4 Dr. D.F.C. appears to have the best shot of beating the imposing favorite in here. The six-year-old stretches back out to a route after making a mild late run to finish third last out in the Thunder Rumble going seven furlongs in the slop. Two back this guy was fourth in the Empire Classic. The winner of that race was Haynesfield, who returned to win the Discovery Handicap (G3) in his next outing on Nov. 21. Our top pick’s last two starts were on wet tracks, which he really has never really cared for. He does have a habit of landing for minor shares but we should get a decent enough price here to give him a good look.

#1 Wishful Tomcat is making his first start since June for the Dutrow barn that is 16% winners with horses coming back off a +180 day layoff. The four year old has won his last eight starts in New York. He has only been on the inner surface once in his career, breaking his maiden by 17 ¾ lengths and earning a huge figure for a New York bred maiden in that outing. Dominquez has been on board for seven of his eight career wins, and Dutrow finds a great spot for him here. It’s just tough to take 2/5 off the bench.

Wagering

WIN: #4 to win at 6/1 or better.

EX: 1,4 / 1,3,4,5

TRI: 1,4 / 1,3,4,5 / 1,2,3,4,5

Live Longshots:

These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

Aqueduct

R1: #7 Tsavorite   12/1

R2: #6 Does It Every Time   8/1

R3: #4 Disco Diva   8/1

R4: #7 Considerate   15/1

R5: #11 Pay the Fare   8/1

R7: #8 Banking Holiday   12/1

R8: #4 Dr. D.F.C.   8/1

R8: #5 Naughty New Yorker   10/1

Good luck today!
