I really need to stop watching The Weather Channel.

I was keeping a close eye on the “The Winter Powerhouse” forecasts on Friday, trying to figure out if it was going to affect the Aqueduct card on Saturday.

I had heard reports there could be anywhere from one to nine inches of snow in the area.

The area was under a Winter Weather Watch, and this is an exact quote from the advisory:

“AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED... THERE REMAINS A GREAT DEAL OF UNCERTAINTY ON THE AMOUNT OF SNOWFALL AS THE FORECAST AREA WILL BE ALONG THE NORTHERN EDGE OF THE STORM SYSTEM. A SMALL DEVIATION IN TRACK WILL HAVE SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS. A TRACK FURTHER NORTH THAN CURRENTLY EXPECTED... WOULD RESULT IN MORE SNOW... WHILE A SHIFT TO FURTHER SOUTH COULD RESULT IN LITTLE OR NO SNOW FALLING ACROSS THE WATCH AREA.”

Why didn’t they just say, “Go outside in the morning with a ruler and let us know what ya got?”

Needless to say, I decided to skip handicapping Saturday’s card, and racing went on as usual, with more flakes in my cereal bowl than on the track at the Big A by post time.

As I said yesterday, if weathermen were horseplayers, they would go broke in a hurry.

The sun will be out today (that’s unofficial), and we are fully prepared to make a good profit.

I make a prediction on the big game every year, and I have been right five years running.

This year I like the Capitals to make it 14 wins in a row, as Ovechkin and the boys in red will handle Sid the Kid and Geno.

Analysis: #6 Turaath has burned some cash as the beaten fav in his last three starts, but looks like he has caught a field here he can beat. Last out he was beaten just a head at today's level, 7 3/4 lengths clear of the rest of the field. The third place finisher in the race was Good Karma, who returned to beat $16K starter handicap foes in his next outing on Feb. 3. The five year old owns a solid pace profile throughout and looks like he gets it done here as the favorite.

#4 Dreamed Day stalked the early pace and was sitting in third as they turned for home but ran out of gas, fading to finish sixth. The winner of the race was Sawtooth Mountain, who beat Alw-1 foes in his next start, while the runner up San Naa beat $25K non winners of two in his next outing on Jan. 15. This guy owns back numbers that put him in the mix here and is making his third start of his current form cycle.

Analysis: #9 Dahlgreen Chapel chased a gate to wire winner over a strongly speed favoring racing strip last out, checking in second and beaten a length for the top spot. The colt earned the top last out speed fig in the effort and was a dozen lengths clear of the third place finisher in that outing. The colt should get the job done in this spot.

#6 Yawanna Twist was a smart looking maiden winner in his debut over a wet track on Dec. 26. Three have exited that race to win next out. The colt returns with lasix added to the mix here for the Dutrow barn that is 35% winners with second timer starters. The colt is out of the stakes winner Twist and Pop ($234K).
