WASHINGTON (AP) - Tony Taylor scored 17 points and hit two late free throws to help George Washington defeat Dayton 60-58 in both teams' regular-season finale Saturday.
David Pellom added 10 of his 16 points in the second half for George Washington (17-13, 10-6 Atlantic 10 Conference), which sealed its first 10-win conference season since 2006-07.
The Colonials will host Saint Joseph's on Tuesday in the first round of the conference tournament.
Juwan Staten scored eight of his 10 points for Dayton (19-12, 7-9) during an 11-4 run that pulled the Flyers into a 58-all tie, and also assisted on Paul Williams' game-tying 3-pointer with 40 seconds to play.
But Staten was called for a blocking foul on Taylor on the next possession, and Taylor hit both foul shots with 10 seconds to play.
Chris Wright finished with 12 points for the Flyers, who have lost three straight entering the postseason.
After a first half with six ties and seven lead changes, George Washington opened a 50-44 lead as Dayton went 10:37 without a field goal.
Chris Johnson's 3-pointer ended Dayton's drought and closed the margin to 50-47, but the Colonials' lead grew to seven points twice before the Flyers fought back.
Staten, who had left the contest for about six minutes of the second half after a collision with Taylor, hit two free throws to start that comeback, got one basket on a goaltending call and hit two more inside baskets to close it to 56-55.
Bryan Bynes hit a pair of free throws for George Washington, but then Staten drove and found Williams in the right corner for the tying 3.
George Washington hit its last four free throws but had missed four straight before that, letting Dayton back into the contest. The Colonials finished at 63 percent (19 of 30) from the foul line.
