ATLANTA (AP) - Frank Hassell nailed a jumper with 7 seconds on the clock to lift Old Dominion past Georgia State 51-48 on Wednesday night.
The Monarchs (16-5, 7-3 Colonial Athletic Association) trailed 48-47 after a free throw from Hassell with 2:07 left to play and trailed by that same margin with 29 seconds remaining before a turnover gave the ball back to ODU.
A jumpshot from Darius James with 10 seconds left hit off the rim. Hassell grabbed the rebound and knocked down the jumper, getting fouled in the process. Hassell, who finished with 15 points, made the free throw to extend the Monarchs' lead to 50-48.
Brandon McGee scored 14 points, Javonte Maynor added 11 and Dante Curry 10 for the Panthers (8-12, 3-7), who have lost six consecutive games.
The Monarchs led 24-23 at halftime, but trailed throughout a majority of the second half before taking the lead in the final seconds.
