After another game-ending celebration at home plate, the Washington Nationals are on the verge of the longest winning streak in franchise history.

Washington tries to make it 11 in a row Friday night when it opens a three-game home series against the San Francisco Giants.

Denard Span scored from second on a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Nationals beat Arizona 1-0 on Thursday. Five of Washington's last six victories have come in walkoff fashion, the first such stretch by any team since Houston did it in 1986.

"We just feel confident that somehow, some way we're going to find a way to inch off a victory," Span said after stealing his career-high 27th base.

Washington (73-53) has outscored opponents 46-23 during its run, which is tied with Kansas City for the longest in the majors this season.

"I understand appreciating what you have and working hard to get what you want," Nationals manager and former Giants star Matt Williams said. "That's important to me and it's important to those guys, so that's how we approach it."

Washington will try to stay hot behind Doug Fister (12-3, 2.20 ERA), who is 7-1 with a 1.57 ERA over his last 10 starts. The right-hander allowed two unearned runs over seven innings in Sunday's 6-5, 11-inning victory over Pittsburgh.

Fister's 1.76 ERA at home ranks as baseball's second-lowest among pitchers with at least eight starts. He threw seven scoreless innings to win 2-1 at San Francisco on June 10 in his only appearance against the Giants.

San Francisco (67-59) is seeking a fifth win in six games after taking two of three from the Cubs. After falling 2-1 in the resumption of Tuesday's suspended game earlier in the day, the Giants won 5-3 on Thursday.

Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval went a combined 7 for 8 with three RBIs in the victory as San Francisco remained 3 1/2 games behind NL West-leading Los Angeles. The Giants are one game ahead of Atlanta for the second wild-card spot.

Tim Hudson (8-9, 3.03) takes the mound for San Francisco looking to snap a five-start winless drought. The right-hander has gone 0-3 with a 4.18 ERA over that stretch while receiving five runs of support.

Hudson was tagged for five runs over four-plus innings against Philadelphia on Saturday. He'll try to bounce back against a franchise he's baffled over the years.

Hudson is 17-5 with a 2.37 ERA in 30 matchups, tied for his most wins against any team. He allowed one unearned run over seven innings in a 7-1 victory over the Nationals on June 12, improving to 3-0 with a 0.64 ERA in his last four starts against them.

Span is 2 for 17 in their matchups while Danny Espinosa is 5 for 27 with 10 strikeouts. Jayson Werth has hit Hudson well, going 15 for 41 with three homers and four doubles.

San Francisco outfielder Michael Morse will be making his first appearance in Washington since spending 2009-12 with the Nationals. He's batting .405 over his last 12 games.

Giants right fielder Hunter Pence has four homers and eight RBIs over an eight-game stretch at Nationals Park, where San Francisco has dropped seven of eight.
