BALTIMORE (AP) - The Oakland Athletics had been pitching very well recently. The Baltimore Orioles changed all that.

Tyson Ross allowed nine runs in four-plus innings and Oakland lost to the Orioles 10-1 on Saturday night.

While Ross gave up nine runs, Wei-Yin Chen pitched seven strong innings, Chris Davis had four RBIs, Adam Jones and Robert Andino each had three hits for Baltimore.

Entering the game, the Athletics had the lowest ERA in the American League - 2.68. After the 10-run barrage, it had risen to 3.02.

``Definitely it's frustrating when you come out and give up a lot of runs and hits like that,' Ross said.

Chen (2-0) allowed six hits and didn't allow a run until Jonny Gomes' one-out home run in the sixth. By then, he led 9-0. He struck out four and walked two.

``We had our opportunities in the first couple of innings. After that first inning it seemed like the momentum just swung in their direction. They got out of it, we couldn't muster anything after that,' Athletics manager Bob Melvin said.

Melvin was critical of his club's inability to hit Chen.

``I am not going to say he didn't throw the ball well. I am just saying we had opportunities that we didn't take advantage of. I think he probably gained confidence from that. I haven't seen him enough to say what kind of pitcher he is. The numbers he has put up are indicative of a good pitcher.'

The Orioles scored five runs in the second on a season-high six hits. They're 13-8 and haven't been more than five games above .500 since July 20, 2005.

Oakland, which was a game above .500 for the first time since May 18, 2011, fell back to 11-11.

Josh Reddick was hitless in three at_bats against Chen.

``He didn't overpower us, we just missed him a lot. I felt like I missed a lot of fast balls. I got a little aggressive and was chasing balls,' Reddick said.

``It was very frustrating for me tonight. It was a case of everything going right for them in comparison to us not being able to get anything done.

In the second, Jones led off the second by beating out an infield hit off Ross (1-1). Wilson Betemit singled him to third. Jones scored on Davis' single, and when Ronny Paulino faked the bunt, Oakland catcher Kurt Suzuki tried to pick Betemit off, but the throw was wild and runners moved up a base. Betemit and Davis scored on Ronny Paulino's base hit. Paulino scored on Andino's single, and after Nolan Reimold singled, Andino scored on J.J. Hardy's sacrifice fly to center.

``Runs still count. It doesn't matter whether it's a home run or four singles, the run still goes on the board,' Ross said.

The Orioles added a run in the third on a single by Jones and a double by Betemit.

Baltimore added three in the fifth on an RBI single by Jones and a two-run single by Davis.

Ross was charged with nine runs and 11 hits in four-plus innings.

Davis hit his fourth home run of the year in the seventh. His four RBIs equal a career high.

Luis Ayala pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Chen.
