LOS ANGELES (AP) - Trevor Cahill is used to dominating the Los Angeles Dodgers, having gone 5-0 against them in his career.

The right-hander knew he was in for a tough outing on Tuesday night when he didn't feel comfortable.

``Usually when I've pitched here in the past, I've felt pretty much in control,' he said after the Arizona Diamondbacks lost 5-3 in 11 innings.

``I guess I was kind of going for the strikeout a little bit too much. I was trying to throw my sinker over the middle, and it was nowhere close.'

Cahill allowed three runs - one earned - on four hits in a no-decision, remaining unbeaten as he lowered his career ERA to 2.04 in nine career starts against the Dodgers. He struck out two and walked four.

Pinch-hitter Scott Van Slyke's two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th gave the Dodgers their fifth straight win over the D-backs.

Van Slyke lined the homer off Josh Collmenter (4-3) into the lower left field seats, scoring Mark Ellis who singled just ahead of Van Slyke.

Los Angeles reduced its magic number in the NL West race to six, and leads the division by 13 games over Arizona with 18 to play.

``We know what kind of talent they have over there,' Cahill said. ``It was just one of those things where if they figured out some stuff and started coming up to the level they're capable of, you had to watch out for them.'

Chris Withrow (1-0) got the victory, striking out four in 1 1-3 innings.

After Arizona took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth, the Dodgers tied the game in the bottom of the inning on Andre Ethier's RBI double that scored Hanley Ramirez, who walked with two outs.

Didi Gregorius' two-run homer on his first pitch from Edinson Volquez gave the D-backs a 3-2 lead earlier in the inning. Gerardo Parra also scored after drawing a leadoff walk.

``We're not swinging the bats good at all right now, and we're paying for it,' Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. ``We're not playing well, and the record is reflective of that.'

The Diamondbacks trailed 2-1 in the fourth on Miguel Montero's RBI single.

Los Angeles led 2-0 in the second on fielder's choice groundouts by Volquez and Yasiel Puig.

Volquez gave up three runs and four hits in six innings of his second start and third appearance as a Dodger since signing on Aug. 30. He struck out five and walked one.

NOTES: D-backs 1B Paul Goldschmidt went 2 for 5 with a double and a run scored on his 26th birthday. It was his eighth multihit effort in 14 games against the Dodgers this season. He is hitting .344 with four homers and 14 RBIs against them. ... Gregorius has homered twice in his last four games since Sept. 3 and driven in five runs in that span. ... Arizona dropped to 16-7 in extra-inning games, including 10-4 on the road this season. ... The D-backs are one inning shy of Minnesota's record of 76 extra innings played in a season, set in 1969.
