TORONTO (AP) - The sight of yet another starting pitcher forced out by injury served as a rallying point for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Rookie right-hander Drew Hutchison left in the first inning with a sore elbow but five relievers combined on a five-hitter as the Blue Jays beat the Phillies 3-0 on Friday night, snapping a three-game losing streak.

Hutchison became the third Blue Jays starter in five days to leave with an injury when a sore right elbow ended his outing after just nine pitches.

``The feeling in the dugout was almost a rallying point, to be honest with you,' Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. ``Adversity brings out characteristics in everybody and we're right in the heart of that right now.'

Before the game, the Blue Jays announced that an MRI on right-hander Kyle Drabek revealed a torn ligament in his elbow. Drabek, who had ligament replacement surgery as a minor leaguer in 2007, is due to visit noted surgeon Dr. James Andrews on Monday to confirm the diagnosis.

Drabek, who left in the fifth inning of Wednesday's loss to Washington, was placed on the 15-day disabled list and left-hander Brett Cecil was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas. Cecil will make his season debut Sunday against the Phillies.

Adding to Toronto's woes, right-hander Brandon Morrow left Monday's loss to the Nationals after nine pitches with a strained muscle in his left side. He was later placed on the 15-day DL.

``I've never seen this,' Farrell said of the rash of pitching injuries. ``We're getting challenges thrown at us from every different angle and health right now is certainly the big one.'

Farrell said the Blue Jays will have ``a better read' on the precise nature of Hutchison's injury after he undergoes additional tests.

``Until then it's sheer speculation on the length, the severity or anything like that,' he said.

Brett Lawrie had two doubles and drove in a run as the Blue Jays won for just the third time in their past nine meetings with the Phillies.

Philadelphia, last in the NL East, had won two straight coming in but lost for the 10th time in 13 games.

``We didn't have a very good game tonight,' Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said.

No strangers to injuries themselves, the Phillies lost catcher Carlos Ruiz in the seventh inning with a strained muscle in his left side. He was replaced by Brian Schneider.

``(Ruiz) won't be able to play for a few days for sure,' Manuel said. ``We'll know more by tomorrow.'

Ruiz went 1 for 2 with a walk, boosting his team-leading average to .362. Ruiz, who was injured swinging at strike three to end the sixth, has eight homers, 35 RBIs and a team-high 16 doubles.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley catcher Erik Kratz is expected to join the Phillies in Toronto on Saturday in case Ruiz is forced onto the disabled list.

Philadelphia is already without infielders Ryan Howard and Chase Utley, as well as two-time Cy Young award winner Roy Halladay.

``It's almost like a bug, if anything,' losing pitcher Vance Worley said. ``A lot of us are doing what we need to do to make sure we're in shape to play and things are just kind of spiraling out of control.'

Worley said the prospect of Ruiz joining Philadelphia's lengthy list of injury victims was ``terrible.'

``He's been one of our most consistent guys and he does a good job behind the dish for us, too,' Worley said.

Aaron Laffey worked 1 2-3 innings, Carlos Villanueva earned the win by pitching four innings, Jason Frasor and Darren Oliver each worked one inning and Casey Janssen pitched the ninth for his sixth save in seven chances.

Villanueva (2-0) allowed two hits, walked two and struck out five.

``We won and we're happy about that but we're concerned about Hutch,' Villanueva said.

Toronto broke through against Worley (3-3) with consecutive two-out doubles in the third. Rajai Davis doubled to left and Lawrie followed with an RBI double to right.

The Blue Jays took advantage of an error by Phillies third baseman Mike Fontenot to add two runs in the fourth. Jose Bautista led off with a single and Edwin Encarnacion followed with a broken bat grounder to third. Fontenot's throw sailed wide of second base and into foul territory in right field, allowing Bautista to score as Encarnacion advanced to third. One out later, Encarnacion scored on Yunel Escobar's groundout.

Fontenot's error was the 13th by the Phillies in their past nine games.

Worley allowed three runs, one earned, and five hits in seven innings, matching his longest start of the season. He walked two and struck out five.

``That's probably the best I've felt so far coming back,' said Worley, who missed three weeks in May and early June with a sore elbow. ``I got my pitch count up and the ball was doing what I wanted it to do.'

NOTES: Halladay (sore back/shoulder muscle) played catch for the first time Friday since landing on the 15-day DL on May 29. Halladay made 30 throws from 60 feet on flat ground and will do the same Sunday. ... Utley (left knee), Howard (left Achilles) and OF Laynce Nix (left calf) all played in a rehab game at extended spring training Friday. Utley played four innings at second base, while Howard and Nix batted but did not play in the field. ... Philadelphia OF Domonic Brown, who's at Triple-A, has a sprained right knee and will not play for seven to 10 days, assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said. Brown left in the fifth inning of Thursday's game.
