SAN DIEGO (AP) - The last-place Padres have played their best baseball at home. Right now, they can't find a way to win anywhere.

Tyler Chatwood took a shutout into the seventh inning and the Colorado Rockies beat skidding San Diego 4-2 on Monday night, handing the Padres their 10th consecutive defeat.

Just back from a 1-9 road trip, the Padres (40-50) fell to 25-19 at home. They have lost 16 of 20 since winning a season-high seven straight to move two games over .500 on June 17.

``The guys put a little pressure on themselves,' manager Bud Black said. ``I think what happens is a little bit self-inflicted pressure on yourself, and you can't play the game that way. It builds with each game if things aren't going well.'

Wilin Rosario hit a two-run double and Jonathan Herrera drove in a run with a bunt to help the Rockies end a three-game slide with their second victory in eight games. They have won nine of 11 against San Diego this season.

Chatwood (5-2) allowed two runs and five hits in a season-high 6 2-3 innings. He walked four and struck out three. The right-hander is 3-1 in five road starts this season with a 1.26 ERA.

Matt Belisle pitched a hitless eighth and Rafael Betancourt worked the ninth for his 12th save in 13 opportunities, retiring pinch-hitter Mark Kotsay with two on to end it.

``We just couldn't get to Chatwood,' Black said. ``I think that was more of the game. We couldn't really solve him.'

Chatwood's performance was particularly important to Colorado's bullpen, which had to pick up starter Roy Oswalt after he managed only five outs Sunday.

``Tyler was real good,' Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. ``He bounced back even after the ball he took off his leg.'

That was in the sixth, when Everth Cabrera hit a sharp one-hopper off Chatwood's right shin.

``At first it was pretty sore,' Chatwood said. ``But once I walked it off I got the feeling back a little bit and got through.'

Edinson Volquez (6-7) gave up four runs and eight hits in 5 1-3 innings. He walked four and struck out three.

Chatwood's batterymate, Rosario, drove in the first two runs of the game with a double in the first inning. Corey Dickerson walked on four pitches leading off. With one out, Michael Cuddyer reached on an infield single. Rosario followed with a double to left-center.

The Rockies added two more in the sixth and chased Volquez from the game. Todd Helton walked leading off the inning but was erased on a fielder's choice grounder by Nolan Arenado. Tyler Colvin followed with a single that sent Arenado to third.

Herrera dropped down a bunt that Volquez tried to scoop with his glove to get Arenado, who slid home safely. Volquez left the game after walking Chatwood. Dickerson followed with a sacrifice fly off reliever Brad Brach.

``Edinson was a little erratic at times,' Black said. ``He put some zeros on the board in the middle of the game. The walk to Helton got him there in the sixth. It's always tough with a leadoff walk.'

The Padres pushed across two runs in the seventh.

The first one came when Chatwood walked Cabrera on four pitches with the bases loaded. That forced in Jesus Guzman, who led off the inning with a single.

Chatwood was relieved by Rex Brothers. Pinch-hitter Kyle Blanks hit a ball that third baseman Arenado fielded in the hole. He looked to second before throwing late to first as Blanks beat it out for an RBI infield single.

Brothers got Chase Headley on a popup to end the inning.

NOTES: Padres C Yasmani Grandal, who sustained a severe right knee sprain Saturday in a home plate collision and was placed on the 60-day disabled list Sunday, will be out for the rest of the season. Black said the MRI, which came back Monday, ``showed significant damage to the ACL and MCL. There is going to be a reconstruction of the ACL in probably two weeks and will require a long rehab likely between nine and 12 months.' ... Padres C Rene Rivera, called up from Triple-A Tucson to replace Grandal on the roster, made his San Diego debut when he started behind the plate. ... Padres 1B Yonder Alonso, sidelined with a bruised right hand, was in Tucson on a rehab assignment and was scheduled to play again Tuesday. He could return to before the All-Star break, Black said. ... Padres 2B Jedd Gyorko, sidelined with a groin injury, took part in running drills before the game and will do that again Tuesday before a decision is made on where and when he will begin a rehab assignment. ... All-Star LF Carlos Gonzalez was out of the Rockies' lineup. He is nursing a sprained middle finger on his right hand and is day to day. ... Colorado RHP Jhoulys Chacin (8-3, 3.74 ERA) starts Tuesday night against Padres LHP Eric Stults (6-7, 3.70).
