Game: 3
Venue: Dodger Stadium
Date: June 22, 2011 3:10 PM EDT

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Dodgers hadn't allowed a home run in seven consecutive games. They served up four to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, tying a season high.

los Angeles' 7-5 loss ended its three-game winning streak. The Dodgers haven't won four in a row all season.

Los Angeles was trying to complete its first series sweep of the season and first interleague series sweep since 2006 against the Angels.

But Ted Lilly (5-7) struggled for the second straight start.

The left-hander gave up six hits and a season-high six runs in 4 2-3 innings, struck out a season-best eight and walked one. The three homers he allowed tied both his personal and club season high.

``Today was one of those days where I was behind in the count more than usual, so when you're pitching from behind like that, the hitters are more comfortable and they can shrink the zone a little bit. That makes my room for error a lot less,' Lilly said. ``I need to get better.'

Lilly gave up five earned runs and eight hits in a 7-3 loss to Houston last Friday.

Despite all the homers, the Dodgers were in the game until the last out.

Defensive replacement Austin Jackson made an over-the-shoulder catch on Dioner Navarro's bases-loaded drive to end the game.

``I thought it was going to go over his head, for sure. I saw it on the replay, and he got a great jump on it,' Navarro said. ``He's extremely fast, and he got to that ball like nothing.'

Navarro struck out with the bases loaded to end the fifth, mirroring the Dodgers' problems in bases-loaded situations this season.

``I know we left some runners out there, but you've got to get them on to be able to leave them,' manager Don Mattingly said. ``We gave ourselves some chances, and that's what we're looking for.'

Casper Wells opened the game with one of four home runs by Detroit. Miguel Cabrera and Magglio Ordonez also homered. So did Don Kelly, who connected as a pinch-hitter for Ordonez in the eighth inning.

``There were quite a few occasions where I thought I needed to make a better pitch,' Lilly said. ``The pitch to Magglio Ordonez was not a very good pitch in that situation. You take that one back and the game's different. I could do that a lot. I have to look at myself in the mirror.'

Mattingly saw Lilly's problems as nothing more than missing his spots.

``Teddy can't really can't afford to do that. He's not a guy who's going to overpower anybody,' the first-year manager said. ``He's got to change speeds and hit locations. If he can miss spots, he can get in trouble.'

The Dodgers closed to 6-5 in the fifth on Andre Ethier's two-out RBI single against Tigers starter Rick Porcello and James Loney's run-scoring single off Charlie Furbush. Al Alburquerque (4-1) came in and walked Marcus Thames before striking out Navarro.

The Dodgers scored two runs in the first when Matt Kemp tripled home a run with two out and scored on Loney's single. They added a run in the fourth on Thames' RBI single.

Jose Valverde struck out pinch-hitter Casey Blake and retired Navarro on the fly ball for his 17th save in as many chances.

Albuquerque got the victory in relief, striking out four and walking two in 2 1-3 innings.

NOTES: The Tigers improved to 3-6 in interleague play this season, while the Dodgers fell to 3-3. ... Dodgers 2B Aaron Miles has hit safely in 12 of his last 14 games. ... Both clubs wore throwback jerseys, with the Tigers donning ones from the 1944 season and the Dodgers wearing their 1940s-era, powder blue uniforms.
