Preview: Jets (37-35) at Red Wings (39-28)

In their initial matchup with Detroit this season, the Winnipeg Jets spoiled the Red Wings' attempt at a perfect road trip. In the next one, the Jets will try to add to their woes at home.

Winnipeg will try to earn a season-high third straight win by sending Detroit to a sixth consecutive defeat at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday night.

The Jets (8-9-2) had lost six of seven overall before beating Detroit 4-2 last Monday, preventing the Red Wings' from sweeping a four-game trek through Canada.

"We weren't skating against the Jets, so I didn't think we did ourselves justice," Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall told the team's website. "They came skating and we didn't skate. We were on our heels the whole game."

Winnipeg enters this matchup with some momentum after winning back-to-back games for the first time since its 2-0 start to the season. Following a 5-0 rout of Nashville on Friday, the Jets rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 5-4 shootout victory over San Jose two days later.

Andrew Ladd got the tying goal with 1:43 left in regulation and was the only player to score in the shootout.

"I thought we were resilient in the game," coach Claude Noel said. "I thought we didn't lose our focus, we didn't lose our hope, and we easily could have after the first period. ... To me, it was a huge building block for our team."

Winnipeg will try to keep heading in the right direction against a Detroit team mired in its longest home losing streak since a six-game skid Feb. 8-March 3, 1986. Four of the five defeats during this slide have come after regulation, including a 3-2 overtime loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday.

"We have to take advantage of it when we're home and we haven't done that so far and that's something that we obviously have to look after here real soon," Kronwall said.

Henrik Zetterberg scored his second goal of the game with 4:12 left in regulation Saturday, but Kyle Quincey's turnover behind his own net led to the deciding score in the extra period. It was the third loss in a row for Detroit (9-5-4), a skid which began against Winnipeg.

The Red Wings could use a better performance from their power play, which is 1 for 18 in the last six games. Detroit's penalty kill, though, has allowed one goal in the last 22 opposing power plays.

The Jets are 1 for 44 with the man advantage in their last 14 games and gave up two power-play goals to San Jose on Sunday after killing off 11 consecutive penalties.

Detroit forward Johan Franzen might return after missing the past four games with an upper-body injury/illness.

Zetterberg has four goals and four assists in five games this month. He has six goals and 10 assists in 10 career matchups with the Jets franchise, and he scored in last week's defeat at Winnipeg.

Ladd also scored that night, giving him five goals in his last five games against the Red Wings. He has eight points in his past six contests overall.

The Jets have lost three straight road games in regulation and are 2-4-2 all-time in Detroit, losing 7-1 in their last visit Dec. 30, 2011.
