Betting on the Anaheim Ducks

The Ducks aren't too far removed from a mightily successful run in the mid-2010s. Some bettors are hopeful the franchise will soon get back to their winning ways.

Anaheim Ducks Franchise History

Immediately after their inception in 1993, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim were not so mighty.

The franchise hadn’t made back-to-back playoff appearances before reaching the Stanley Cup Finals somewhat surprisingly in 2003.

After losing to the Devils in seven games, the Ducks failed to make the playoffs the following year. Fortunately, Anaheim wouldn’t have to wait long to see its team return.

In 2007, the franchise won its first Stanley Cup, handling the Ottawa Senators in five games. Since reaching the top of the mountain in ’07, the Ducks have proved to be one of the more consistent franchises in the league.

The team claimed five straight division titles from 2013-2017.

Sports betting is currently illegal in California. Despite the state’s potential to be one of the nation’s most lucrative markets, the legalization process has moved rather slowly.

In comparison to other states, California is behind. Some states without legal online betting offer retail betting through sate-run or tribal casinos, but sports betting in California is illegal in all forms.

In November 2022, Californians will vote on a number of proposed plans for sports betting legalization in the Golden State.

The terms of each proposal will vary. After election season, California could be on its way to legalizing all forms of sports betting, none at all, or fall somewhere in the middle with legal tribal casinos and racetracks.

No matter when and where Ducks’ fans and bettors will be able to place their wagers legally, they will likely see something like this at their sportsbook of choice:

In this example, the Ducks are favored on the moneyline over the Los Angeles Kings. A bettor backing the Ducks simply needs them to win the game. If the Ducks lose the game, the moneyline wager settles as a loss.

-130 indicates a bettor would need to wager $130 to make a profit of $100 on their bet. Inversely, the +110 moneyline value for the Kings implies a $100 moneyline wager would net a bettor a $110 profit.
